À propos de cet audio

David Weber's New York Times bestselling Safehold series of military Science Fiction adventure, which began with Off Armageddon Reef, continues with Midst Toil and Tribulation

WAR AND FAMINE

Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust.

What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Now, reeling from the wars and intrigues that have cascaded from Charis's declaration of independence, the Republic of Siddermark slides into chaos. The Church has engineered a rebellion, and Siddermark's all-important harvest is at risk. King Cayleb and Queen Sharleyan struggle to stabilize their ally, which will mean sending troops—but, even more importantly, preventing famine. For mass starvation in Safehold's breadbasket is a threat even more ominous than civil war...

After 100+ hours listening to the safehold series it was frustrating to hear the most used words in the novel pronounced differently. I often found myself correcting the narrator. Another slow moving book in the series. Hopefully the next ones better. I've been skipping every other book and found it easy to fill in the gaps of what was missed.

Challenging

Love the series and no offense to the narrator but his pronunciation is not correct for a large portion of the places and people. Not that he wasn't trying tho I just didn't like him compared to the narrator of the last one in the series.

No offense but bad narrator

Kevin T Collins has the worst pronunciations of all names and places in the Safehold series. For example, Richter- he pronounces it as "Rich-ter" instead of "Ric-ter". You can hear the strain in the narrator's voice as he purposely mispronounces places and in one instance he says the correct pronunciation of a country and within the same sentence reverts back to his assumed pronunciation.

I almost wanted to skip this book entirely, but then you wouldn't get to experience an important rescue mission and the author's story makes up for the poor reading performance of the narrator. The book is best listened to at 1.7 speed to minimize the amount cringe that you will have to experience.

A very good book marred by poor narrative quality.

Worst narrator

The narrator is way way way too dramatic all the time. It’s extremely off putting to the point that I had to stop listening two chapters in. I’m going to skip this one and go to the next with a better narrator.

Terrible narration

Kevin T. Collins' reading of this novel is so overly dramatic that I can't listen to this. Good for a chuckle, but unbearable after the first five minutes. I want a refund.

Seriously over the top performance
