À propos de cet audio
Mike Burke arguably led one of the most interesting lives in twentieth century America.
It seems that it was his destiny to have a rendezvous with history at every turn in his seventy years.
The people that became his friends, associates and adversaries read like a who’s – who of America in the middle years of the twentieth century.
Mike Burke was a notable college football player at The University of Pennsylvania (Penn), a war hero serving with the newly formed OSS behind enemy lines in World War Two, a cold-war era spy with the CIA in Europe, the vice-president and general manager of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus (The Greatest Show on Earth), a high-powered business executive with the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) and later following his tenure as president of the New York Yankees he became the president of Madison Square Garden (the most famous arena in the world), and by extension became the president of the New York Knicks, chairman of the New York Rangers, a boxing promoter and organizer of spectator spectaculars such as the Holiday on Ice.
