À propos de cet audio

A wildlife biologist's shocking death leads to chilling discoveries in Christine Carbo's haunting and compelling new crime novel set in the wilds of Glacier National Park.

Glacier National Park police officer Monty Harris knows that each summer at least one person - be it a reckless, arrogant climber or a distracted hiker - will meet tragedy in the park. But Paul "Wolfie" Sedgewick's fatal fall from the sheer cliffs near Going-to-the-Sun Road is incomprehensible. Wolfie was an experienced and highly regarded wildlife biologist who knew all too well the perils that Glacier's treacherous terrain presents - and how to avoid them.

The case, so close to home, has frayed park employee emotions. Yet calm and methodical lead investigator Monty senses in his gut that something isn't right. So when whispers of irresponsibility or suicide emerge, tarnishing Wolfie's reputation, Monty dedicates himself to uncovering the truth - for the sake of the man's family and to satisfy his own persistent sense of unease.

Monty discovers that Wolfie's zealous studies of Glacier's mysterious, embattled wolverine population, so vital to park ecology, had met resistance, both local and federal. To muddy the waters further, a wilderness facility for rehabilitating troubled teens - one that Monty's older brother attended - may have a disturbing connection to the case. As Monty delves further into an investigation that goes deeper than he ever imagined, he wrestles with the demons of his past, which lead back to harsh betrayals he thought he'd buried long ago.

And then a second body is found.

Masterpiece

This is my first book by this author, and I must say it is very well written. Lots of twists and turns in the plot with just the right amount of personal family and romantic content considering the protagonist. Beautiful description of the landscape, nature and the emotions of all characters involved. The narrator wasn’t my favourite but still did a good job. Definitely would recommend this book to anyone interested in this genre.

What a read !

Love this author now - she intertwines wild-life facts with the thriller suspense storyline and having spent time in Glacier National Park and driven the Road Going To The Sun it resonated with me completely !
Will be reading her other books for sure.

Loved the story

I loved this story written by Christine Carbo, although I'd be happier with a narrator who sounded less like an announcer, although I think R.C. Bray did better on this one, 'Mortal Fall', than on the previous novel, 'The Wild Inside'. I have one bone to pick with the story, which is that the protagonists in the previous one and this one, have a conflict of interest, especially in this one. Maybe being set in a "small town" they can get away with it, but it seems extremely unrealistic. However, suspending my disbelief, I did enjoy the story, and the characters! And, I'm going on to her next novel, 'The Weight of Night', to see what happens next!

Murder Mystery, poetic descriptions

This is the 2nd, I've read in Carbo's series, I will listen to the 3rd. Bray's narration is pitch perfect, whether describing gory scenes or one of the author's beautiful evocative scenes of nature.

All the elements necessary for a good mystery but…

Masterfully crafted and well -read, but some scenes just too much description. Don’t need to know what it’s like blow by blow to pour an drink a coffee.

Perfect murder in a parc

This is a good second book of the series & it’s a good book. We see a lot more depth the MC (main character) this time around; the first book had a different MC. The secondary characters are not very defined other than if they are related to the case as we learn about them with the officer in charge of the detective team.

The unresolved case of a child disparition keeps you hooked to what the MC is researching on and questionning about.

Interesting how trauma can connect so many people even when they aren’t aware of it (tangentially) or that haven’t been the victim or perpetrator.
