À propos de cet audio
Meet Ladarat Patalung - the first and only nurse detective in Thailand.
Two nights ago a young woman brought her husband into the emergency room of the Sriphat Hospital in Thailand, where he passed away. A guard thinks she remembers her coming in before but with a different husband - one who also died.
Ladarat Patalung, for one, would have been happier without a serial murderer - if there is one - loose in her hospital. Then again, she never expected to be a detective in the first place.
And now Ladarat has no choice but to investigate.
The first novel in a captivating new series by David Casarett, MD.

Somewhat eye-opening to the Thai culture
I really enjoyed the use of Thai terminology throughout this book, and the narrator did an excellent job with them. I thought the narration otherwise was slightly distracted at times though, and as for storyline, I felt it started strong but ended weakly. The characters were likeable but rather static, and the outcomes of the several nicely-interlaced subplots were all too clean for my taste. Enjoyable, but I will likely not be purchasing the next in the series.

not bad
Re-listening to my audiobook library to help my shifts pass by faster, I have this one a second listen tonight.
I accidentally listened to the sequel first. I wasn't so keen on it. This one, though, was actually pretty good. The story was more interesting, and the characters felt, strangely, better developed and less like caricatures here. It was still blatantly derivative of the Mma Ramotswe stories (from the indispensable guide book written by a white person to the socially awkward/unintentionally rude sidekick to the way the protagonist articulates her thoughts), but overall, it wasn't bad.
(Others have commented on the pitfalls of a white guy writing a woman of color. Definitely evidence of that here. Also, the relatively rosy picture of international sex tourism felt a bit off, too.)
