À propos de cet audio
In 1814, Atlas Catesby, a brilliant adventurer and youngest son of a baron, is anxious to resume his world travels after a carriage accident left him injured in London. But his plans are derailed when, passing through a country village, he discovers a helpless woman being auctioned off to the highest bidder - by her husband. In order to save her, Atlas purchases the lady, Lilliana, on the spot to set her free. But Lilliana, desperate to be with her young sons and knowing the laws of England give a father all parental rights, refuses to be rescued - until weeks later when her husband is murdered, and Atlas is the only one who can help clear her name.
Fortunately, Atlas is a master at solving complicated puzzles and finds himself uniquely suited to the task, despite the personal peril it may put him in. But soon he learns the dead man had many secrets - and more than a few enemies willing to kill to keep them quiet.

I don’t really know how to rate this book. I’m still currently reading it, but boy am I bored!!!
This book is more romance than mystery and the romance being as it set in historical times get repetitive with him almost walking behind the lady with heart shaped eyes. It’s a little off putting because it’s like watching unrequited love as it’s happening. him pushing and her rebuffing at every instance, except of course, when he played with her kids and then there’s common ground. Regardless, I don’t see the mutual spark and the mystery’s kind of boring. I found myself more interested in if his friend, the Earl, was going to gain the attention of the sister that I was with whatever romance is developing between the two main characters or with anyone solving the mystery of who killed the husband. It’s a sad state of affairs when that’s the case.
I typically don’t read books that are romance and mystery tied into one from this era because I find that most authors focus more on the romance aspect and the mystery aspect is severely lacking and that’s exactly what I find so far in this book.
This is why if I download a book that is a mystery set in this era more often than not I like it, same thing if I’m in the mindset for a period drama, so romance is set within this era because I know those books will be filled with details about the dress and etiquette, maintain honour and people’s standing in society, things I don’t really care about when it comes to a mystery.
I downloaded the second book before even reading this one and now I think I will DNF this book and send both books back.
