À propos de cet audio
Trading in Texas heat for Maine's tangy salt air, Natalie Barnes risked it all to buy the Gray Whale Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast on Cranberry Island. She adores whipping up buttery muffins and other rich breakfast treats for her guests until Bernard Katz checks in. The overbearing land developer plans to build a resort next door where an endangered colony of black-chinned terns is nesting. Worried about the birds, the inevitable transformation of the sleepy fishing community, and her livelihood, Natalie takes a public stand against the project. But the town board sides with Katz. Just when it seems like things can't get any worse, Natalie finds Katz dead. Now the police and much of the town think she's guilty. Can Natalie track down the true killer before she's hauled off to jail...or becomes the next victim?

UPDATE to: The narrator distracted me incessantly from the story!
I wanted to enjoy this cozy little murder mystery set on a little island in Maine; but the over enunciation by the narrator, especially when one word ended on a consonant and the next word began with a consonant, was just way overboard! So much so that it was a relief to me when the book was over; and I'm not really sure who dunit or why! I will steer clear of this narrator because she ruined this story for me. Reminded me of my sister's Grade 4 teacher who constantly preached, "E-nun-ci-ate!" Except so much worse!
UPDATE: I read the subsequent 2 novels in this series, which are both done with a new narrator, Rebecca Mitchell, and she was an excellent narrator, a wonderful improvement! I was able to enjoy Books 2 and 3 in this series of cozy little murder mysteries!

Bad narrator and stupid Mc
Where have all the intelligent sleuths gone?
I only made it to chapter 7 in this book. It isn’t worth the time to keep reading when one, the narrator is already annoying me and two, the main character is stupid.
First, I wasn’t aware that this is a spinoff series and it would definitely explain why there’s no real information about the main character. Is she young? I can’t decide, because I get this retired Matronly or grandmother vibe from her and at first I assumed that was why she acted the way she did, but even old age couldn’t save this book when she, the supposed prime suspect in a murder, enters a room, which is a possible secondary crime scene and should clearly be off limits, because she hears a noise coming from the room. My first thought would be to wake someone else so that they can be backup until the police arrive, but hers was to pick up a poker and go into the room…while everyone is asleep and the lights are off in the room…to investigate…on her own.
As you would expect, it doesn’t go well for her because as soon as she enters the room she gets knocked unconscious. When she wakes, instead of backtracking out of the room and calling the police or even going next-door to her cop neighbour, no no no, she decides to search around the room as if she can tell what the person is looking for and she can find it herself. It makes absolutely no sense! When she finds nothing, she just goes to bed, like nothing happened!!!???
The next day, she carries on as if nothing has happened until the huge goose egg that’s on the side of her head is noticed, then she says “oh yes…..”, then proceeds to lie about searching the room. What’s the point in lying? Is this to further the plot? Because if it is, all it does is to make her look more guilty because her fingerprints will be all over a now trashed room, where no one witnessed her getting coshed. Even when the neighbour mentions fingerprints, she still doesn’t come clean. This was when I decided that it doesn’t even matter who the killer is or whether this is the best plot, dumb characters are not endearing, charming or funny, they will always bring the book down and always distract from the actual story.
