À propos de cet audio
The first book in the series that has garnered millions of fans across the globe, from New York Times best-selling author Robert Dugoni. Tracy Crosswhite has spent 20 years questioning the facts surrounding her sister Sarah’s disappearance and the murder trial that followed. She doesn’t believe that Edmund House - a convicted rapist and the man condemned for Sarah’s murder- is the guilty party.
Motivated by the opportunity to obtain real justice, Tracy became a homicide detective with the Seattle PD and dedicated her life to tracking down killers. When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking.
As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past - and open the door to deadly danger.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“Dugoni does a superior job of positioning [the plot elements] for maximum impact, especially in a climactic scene set in an abandoned mine during a blizzard - which is melodramatic but nevertheless effective.” (Publishers Weekly)
“Combines the best of a police procedural with a legal thriller, and the end result is outstanding...Dugoni continues to deliver emotional and gut-wrenching, character-driven suspense stories that will resonate with any fan of the thriller genre.” (Library Journal)
“Yes, a conspiracy is revealed, but it’s an unexpected one, as moving as it is startling...The ending is violent, suspenseful, even touching. A nice surprise for thriller fans.” (Booklist, starred review)

Had potential
The prose was decent and the characters were written with a lot of potential, but I lost respect for the protagonist after she made a really bad choice early on that made mo sense for someone with her level knowledge and supposed intelligence. I wound up skipping the middle part to get to the end. The character didn't even seem to recognize or acknowledge the harm she caused.

Compelling and gripping
The story is heartbreakingly haunting. A little predictable yet a few twists that keep you interested. I felt as though the connection between the sisters helped reinforce the magnitude of grief throughout. A solid read.

Okay But Not The Best
I was hoping this would be more psychological thriller than police and lawyer procedural but it was still pretty interesting. I liked the characters, the relationships, and how it ended up. I did think it was pretty good with the twists and turns but it was a bit of a long ending arc.
I liked Tracy as a character and I thought she was pretty well written. However, you could definitely tell that she was written by a man. There were some scenes that I was like "I know this is how a man views women" but it didn't turn me off from the book or the writing as much as some books do.
I did like the way that this turned out in some ways - the ending took a bit too long in my opinion. It didn't keep the tension or the suspense for the whole story, especially the last 30% or so. But it was an interesting ending - one that I definitely didn't see coming.
I am not sure I will continue with this series but I did like this first book. And when I was adding links to this, I noticed it is free with Kindle Unlimited, so if you have that I would recommend checking this one out! Free books are always good.
