À propos de cet audio

What is autism: a devastating developmental condition, a lifelong disability, or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius?

In truth it is all of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Following on from his groundbreaking article 'The Geek Syndrome', Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Going back to the earliest autism research and chronicling the brave and lonely journey of autistic people and their families through the decades, Silberman provides long-sought solutions to the autism puzzle while casting light on the growing movement of 'neurodiversity' and mapping out a path towards a more humane world for people with learning differences.

You know anyone on the autism spectrum: read this.

This book offers an in-depth understanding of the history and context of autism. The narrator keeps it interesting and overall it's a captivating story, with many interesting biographies of key scientists and people with autism that made a big difference still relevant today. There is a great deal of misinformation about autism nowadays. Every now and then, so-called groundbreaking ideas and viewpoints appear on social media; after reading/listening to Neurotribes, you realize that historical specialists were already quite intuitive and informed, more than 50 years ago. It's pretty dense, it deserves more than one read. If you know anyone anywhere on the autism spectrum, including yourself, Neurotribes is a must.

Please lose the accents!

This book is amazing, so dense and profound, helps a lot to understand autism. But the narrator's different accents just irk me so much! This is unnecessary at best...
