À propos de cet audio
As a young child, Herman Lehmann was captured by a band of plundering Apache Indians and remained with them for nine years. This is his dramatic and unique story.
His memoir, fast-paced and compelling, tells of his arduous initial years with the Apache as he underwent a sometimes torturous initiation into Indian life. Peppered with various escape attempts, Lehmann's recollections are fresh and exciting in spite of the years past.
Lehmann provides us with a fascinating look at Apache, and later, Comanche culture. He tells of their rituals and medicinal practices and gives an insight into Native American manufacture of arrowheads, saddles, and shields.
After a few years, Lehmann became completely integrated into the warrior life, joining in on raids throughout the Southwest and Mexico. Nine Years Among the Indians tells of violent clashes with white rangers and other Native American tribes, scalpings, and the violence of life in 19th-century Western America.

interesting
Interesting story. But dated obviously. Must have been terrible for the natives to be driven to do this.

Within Our Families Memories
I have just been exposed to a life that survived a brutality that is unimaginable to the children from post industrial societies, But I ask these same people to ask their grand-parents what happened to them when they came to the wilds of North America, People encountered cultures that fought for every item of life - water, food, shelter, safety and family stability. If you survived past 30, you most likely lost mates, children, parents , homes, through enemies both personal or environmental.
Herman survived! He lost everything and yet found everything eventually. Many did not! He makes you live through the hell and what it took to survive. Whether we like it or not, if you walk on the soil of Canada, U.S. or Mexico; and your family was here since the 1850's, they lived through this life,
The sweet spot is that your ancestors lived to tell their stories, because you are reading them.

A real account of what happened to captives of the Indians....
I found Mr. Lehmann’s story from beginning, as a captured boy of the Apache, to his young adulthood with the Comanche, remarkable. This being a true account in his own words, showed the stark difference in the way the white captives were treated by the various tribes. This book is truly a historical gem.
