À propos de cet audio
From beloved Governor General Literary Award-winning author Susin Nielsen comes a touching and funny middle-grade story about family, friendship and growing up when you're one step away from homelessness.
Felix Knuttson, 12, is an endearing kid with an incredible brain for trivia. His mom Astrid is loving but unreliable; she can't hold onto a job, or a home. When they lose their apartment in Vancouver, they move into a camper van, just for August, till Astrid finds a job. September comes, they're still in the van; Felix must keep "home" a secret and give a fake address in order to enroll in school. Luckily, he finds true friends.
As the weeks pass and life becomes grim, he struggles not to let anyone know how precarious his situation is. When he gets to compete on a national quiz show, Felix is determined to win - the cash prize will bring them a home. Their luck is about to change! But what happens is not at all what Felix expected.

December 6, 1941: Best friends Frank and Stanley have it good. Their dads are Navy pilots stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, and the boys get a front-row view of the huge battleships and the sparkling water. Yes, World War II is raging in Europe and in Asia, but the US isn't involved in the war, and the boys are free to dream about becoming comic book creators. They've even invented a superhero of their own, in the style of Batman, Superman, Captain America, and other stars of the Golden Age of Comics. December 7th, 1941: Everything explodes.

Ce que les critiques en disent
"A well-written work of realism that will be a mirror to some and a window for others. A first purchase." (School Library Journal, starred review)
“Felix's deeply engrossing and fully immersive first-person narrative of homelessness is both illuminating and heartbreaking....[I]t's his winsome and affecting determination that will win readers over. An outstanding addition to the inadequate-parent genre.” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

Highly recommend this novel!
I listened to this book with my thirteen year old daughter. We both laughed, cried, and gained some understanding of what it might be like to grow up as a child without a place to live. I highly recommend this novel!

Relevant, poignant...and fun!
Oh, I adored, Felix! This novel in a warm and thoroughly engaging way hits home (pun intended) with how insidious a slip into homelessness can be. Felix and his mom are living "temporarily" in a Westfalia camper van, and he finds himself doing things he never thought he would--lying, stealing, going to the washroom outside. His mom Astrid loves him to the moon, but struggles with interpersonal relationships and holding down a job. Felix's fortunes begin to look bright when he wins a spot on a TV trivia show. He is the whizziest of whizzes! But with the sky falling all around, will he be able to catch a star before obstacles--and dangers--wreck everything? I listened to the audio book. Young voice actress Nissae Isen (age 21 from Toronto) was amazing! Highly recommended.
