Will he find redemption, or will his past destroy him?
This is one of my most anticipated books of the year. Fans of Fool Me Once, whether you devoured the book or binged the Netflix adaptation, are in for a treat as Harlan Coben returns with the sequel Nobody’s Fool. Picking up a year after the shocking events of the first book, this novel plunges into the tumultuous world of former Detective Sami Kierce, a man struggling to outrun both his past and his tarnished reputation. I am eager to see how Kierce’s story unfolds. Will he find redemption, or will his past destroy him once and for all? If Coben’s track record is any indication, Nobody’s Fool will be a gripping, edge-of-your-seat ride filled with high-stakes drama and the kind of storytelling that keeps you guessing until the final page. —Dawn G., Audible Editor

'Sammy Kierce' is a disgraced ex-cop - now a jaded Private Investigator. He has a loving wife, an adorable two-year-old, fiercely loyal friends.. and a dizzying array of questionable associates. Kierce is a second-generation Pakistani-American with a chip on his shoulder and a history of bad decisions. Coben builds a twisty-turny mystery plot around the character: involving an unsolved kidnapping, human trafficking, and a murder overturned on a technicality. I understand trying to fashion a brooding, self-critical, ever-wronged "good guy" antihero.. but the author fails here. I enjoyed the often laugh-out-loud funny sidekicks and the rollercoaster-ride mystery but couldn't convince myself to care about the protagonist.

As to presentation: Reader Vikas Adam narrates the book enthusiastically - which is great - but his chosen voices are over-the-top cartoonish (female voices are actually cringeworthy at times, for example). After factoring in lazy sound mixing by Grand Central Publishing sound engineers, we have a subpar listening product.

Altogether, 'Nobody's Fool' is one of the weaker Harlan Coben offerings that I've encountered. The audiobook merits 6/10 stars. It was a reasonable investment for the $4.19CDN that I paid for it.. but don't pay full price.

I'm a big fan of Harlan Corben, but this was a disappointment with an oddball premise. Really disliked being talked to by the main character throughout the story. The part about the night class wannabe detectives was lame. The wife in the story has a superfluous role and does little to advance the story. I'd suggest to give this a miss.

The plots and twists make this read quite enjoyable. The conclusion hints that there is more to this story so I’m definitely looking forward to the sequel.

The store is meh... one of the weakest I read by this author. Too long, characters' purpose does not stand out, overall just boring
