The narrator is different from the first book. That can be disconcerting because you're expecting to hear specific character voices; however, generally you soon adapt to his style and his voices. That doesn't happen here, because, whether he can't or chooses not to, the narrator provides little differentiation among his characters. Is this a man? A woman? Which of the main characters is this.

When you're reading a book, there are visual cues that break inner monologue from dialogue; in an audiobook, you come to depend on the various voices for those cues. Without the individual voices, the dialogue can be lost, merge with the monologue, and muddy the story, if not make it boring.

Thankfully, the third book as several narrators.
