Begin at the Castle Esplanade and then descend steps to view the White Hart Inn, where a pair of notorious murderers once supped, on the Grassmarket; site of many public executions - a miraculous escape from the hangman's noose - and the Bowfoot Well. Then walk onto the Museum on the Mound, the National Gallery of Scotland, the Royal Scottish Academy, and the famous Scott Monument. Admire St Andrew Square and the Georgian elegance of James Craig's New Town. Stroll along George Street to Charlotte Square, the birthplace of a famous General and now the home to Scotland's First Minister and a preserved Georgian House, where the tour concludes.
