À propos de cet audio
Paper Dolls is a dark and compelling psychological thriller which will appeal to fans of authors like Chris Carter, C.J. Tudor and Karin Slaughter.
When a bizarre set of murders take place in London, three flatmates become embroiled in the terrifying mystery. Mike, Beatrice and Kerri all share a flat and a passion to move their careers forward.
When Mike, a frustrated mime in Trafalgar Square, lays eyes on performance artist Princess, his world begins to unravel.
Meanwhile, Kerri is struggling to hold on to her job as a journalist when she stumbles across a body, which turns out to be the third victim of the Paper Doll Killer. Beatrice, who was once a best-selling author, looks to the series of murders for inspiration but finds a lot more than she bargained for. As the three flatmates discover they each have links to the killer they start to turn on one another. Who might be next?

Near-Pornographic Absurdity
Emma Pullar quite clearly tries to make up for ho-hum writing, a thin plot, and pedestrian character development by "shocking" her readers. The novel opens with a Second Person Perspective narrative: casting the reader as a 12-year-old girl graphically torturing and murdering "your" pedophile rapist - while sing-song humming a nursery rhyme, peeing on the corpse's face, and fantasizing about masturbating with the bloodsoaked scissors that "you" just used to cut off his penis. Woah.
I would be okay with that "X-rated" level of graphic description if it were used to build visceral tension, but Pullar just left me feeling manipulated. Coupled with a cast of unsympathetic struggling roommates caught up in the crimes and an uninteresting illogical story progression, and we have a few hours that I wish I could get back.
The one redeeming feature of this recording is "adequate" presentation. Reader Jessica Preddy reads too slowly and with significant overdramatics.. but the listening experience for this QUEST Audio/W.F.Howes Ltd product is at least acceptable. Having it playing in the background while I went about my business was doable.
I got this 1.5/10-star audiobook as a 'Plus' selection.. and that's appropriate. Actually paying a Credit for this thing would be criminal.
