À propos de cet audio
In one of the most inventive travel books in years, Ina Caro invites listeners on 25 one-day train trips that depart from Paris and transport us back through 700 years of French history. Whether taking us to Orléans to evoke the visions of Joan of Arc or to the Place de la Concorde to witness the beheading of Marie Antoinette, Caro animates history with her lush descriptions of architectural splendors and tales of court intrigue. “[An] enchanting travelogue” (Publishers Weekly), Paris to the Past has become one of the classic guidebooks of our time.

Loved this!
I loved everything about this book. I thought it was great that the author not only identified historical sights that could seen on daytrips by train from Paris, but structured it on a historical timeline. As you ‘travel’, you get the French and Parisian historical context for the sights. I have studied a fair amount of French history, and still learned a lot. The author has spent much of her life in Paris, so she really knows her stuff. There are lots of valuable tips, but it doesn’t feel like it is only a travel guide. It is truly so much more. I have no plans to return to Paris anytime soon, but I must admit it has reignited my interest in this fabulous city. The only downside of the audiobook was that there was no PDF accompaniment - and it needed one. Even without how nice it would be to see pictures, my comment relates to place names and maps. I ended up buying the Kindle version as well, so that provided me with these. The only problem was, is that the chapter numbers didn’t match up perfectly, meaning it was annoying when it didn’t need to be. Regardless, this book was so good, I am still going to give it a 5 out of 5 across the board. This is armchair travel at its best. Highly recommended!
