À propos de cet audio
Robert DeLaurentis is a man on a mission.
About three years after his first solo circumnavigation, he was ready for a new adventure. This time he would fly to the North to the South poles—the two places that have never known war—to deliver the message “One planet. One people. One plane” and demonstrate that we must all work together to save the planet. The Universe, however, would not make it easy for him. Piloting a 38-year-old, heavily modified twin-engine Turbo Commander 900, Robert knew this flight might be his last. The problems started before he even left the ground when the wind was blowing in the wrong direction, forcing him to take off up-hill and over a mountain range. With an intricate arrangement of six extra fuel tanks inside her fuselage, the plane was a fire waiting to happen. What could possibly go wrong? A fuel leak started only an hour into the flight. Then one system after another began to fail, creating a series of near-death experiences.
Worst of all, during refueling in Dakar, the #1 inside tank split open, spraying fuel all over Robert and leaving a smelly, oily, toxic mess sloshing around under the floorboards. Then COVID hit, and living in lockdown in Spain became another challenge all its own.
Peace Pilot is a spine-chilling adventure and a unique self-exploration for both Robert and the listener.
