À propos de cet audio
The definitive history of the military's decades-long investigation into mental powers and phenomena, from the author of Pulitzer Prize finalist The Pentagon's Brain and international best seller Area 51.
This is a book about a team of scientists and psychics with top secret clearances.
For more than 40 years, the US government has researched extrasensory perception, using it in attempts to locate hostages, fugitives, secret bases, and downed fighter jets, to divine other nations' secrets, and even to predict future threats to national security. The intelligence agencies and military services involved include CIA, DIA, NSA, DEA, the navy, air force, and army - and even the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Now, for the first time, New York Times best-selling author Annie Jacobsen tells the story of these radical, controversial programs using never before seen declassified documents as well as exclusive interviews with, and unprecedented access to, more than 50 of the individuals involved. Speaking on the record, many for the first time, are former CIA and Defense Department scientists, analysts, and program managers as well as the government psychics themselves.
Who did the US government hire for these top secret programs, and how do they explain their military and intelligence work? How do scientists approach such enigmatic subject matter? What interested the government in these supposed powers, and does the research continue? Phenomena is a riveting investigation into how far governments will go in the name of national security.

This is a story that starts off close and goes very big. The initial part of the story might sound familiar at first: it is about a platoon of mostly 19-year-old boys sent to Afghanistan, and an experience that ends abruptly in catastrophe. Their part of the story folds into the next: inexorably linked to those soldiers and never comprehensively reported before is the US Department of Defense’s quest to build the world’s most powerful biometrics database, with the ability to identify, monitor, catalog, and police people all over the world.

In the chaos following World War II, the US government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States. Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery.

Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. In Dimensions, Dr. Jacques Vallee reexamines the historical record that led to the modern UFO phenomenon and to the belief in alien contact. He then tackles the enigma of abduction reports, which come from various times and various countries, as well as the psychic and spiritual components of the contact experience. In the last portion of the book, he notes the factors that inhibit research into the phenomenon - the triple coverup and political motivations - and concludes that the extraterrestrial theory is simply not strange enough to explain the facts.

Histoire
Famed investigative journalist Eric Schlosser digs deep to uncover secrets about the management of America's nuclear arsenal. A groundbreaking account of accidents, near misses, extraordinary heroism, and technological breakthroughs, Command and Control explores the dilemma that has existed since the dawn of the nuclear age: How do you deploy weapons of mass destruction without being destroyed by them? That question has never been resolved - and Schlosser reveals how the combination of human fallibility and technological complexity still poses a grave risk to mankind.

What is the nature of unidentified aerial phenomena? Forty years ago a small cadre of dedicated researchers began actively investigating cases, interviewing witnesses, and exchanging data through a small, informal network of international contacts. Today this low-profile network, or "invisible college", has grown into a larger, multination volunteer research effort joined by many individuals. But the questions first raised 40 years ago remain current - and unanswered.

Communion is the iconic classic in which Whitley Strieber describes his 1985 close encounter experiences. This book, which fundamentally changed the way we understand close encounters and alien abductions, is presented here with a new introduction by the author. Do not miss this great classic and the powerful introduction that explores the situation as it stands today—even more provocative and important now, as official sources are admitting that UFOs are real unknowns and that they seem to have something to do with close encounters.

Charting the Depths of the Psychic Intelligence Iceberg
Astonishing, unbelievable, thought-provoking, and ultimately completely beyond the current horizons of both consciousness study and sociopolitical-historical study. A must-listen for anyone interested in deep politics, mind control, surveillance, paranormality, psychokinesis, (counter)intelligence operations; equally enlightening for open-minded skeptics of any these topics (myself included). Annie Jacobsen’s reporting (and narration) is excellent; thorough and well-sourced. As with any avenue of investigation into obscure intelligence circles, there are obvious limitations to available evidence. Jacobsen does not let uncertainty hold her back though—often its her speculative forays (always clearly indicated as such) which produce the most profound or lasting insights.
TL;DR: It’s not going to give hard proof of the existence PK or ESP, but it will blow your mind in ways you were not expecting (and probably lead you to believe you have received a psychic message or two during the course of listening).

How engrained ESP research is in much of America’s history.
I was surprised about how non-isolated ESP research and experiments were within the government for so long.
However, much of the middle section of the book seemed like long repetitions of the same stories with different names.
I can appreciate that the author was trying to cover 100% of the ground, but feel like some parts could have been shortened, as long listening sessions became monotonous at times.
Good read! But less enthralling than ‘Nuclear War’
