À propos de cet audio

In a timely update of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, National Book Award finalist Ibi Zoboi skillfully balances cultural identity, class, and gentrification against the heady magic of first love in her vibrant reimagining of this beloved classic.

A smart, funny, gorgeous retelling of Pride and Prejudice, starring all characters of color.

Don't miss the audiobook, read by Elizabeth Acevedo, the beloved author and narrator of The Poet X, winner of an Odyssey Honor and an AudioFile Earphones Award winner.

Zuri Benitez has pride. Brooklyn pride, family pride, and pride in her Afro-Latino roots. But pride might not be enough to save her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood from becoming unrecognizable.

When the wealthy Darcy family moves in across the street, Zuri wants nothing to do with their two teenage sons, even as her older sister, Janae, starts to fall for the charming Ainsley. She especially can’t stand the judgmental and arrogant Darius. Yet as Zuri and Darius are forced to find common ground, their initial dislike shifts into an unexpected understanding.

But with four wild sisters pulling her in different directions, cute boy Warren vying for her attention, and college applications hovering on the horizon, Zuri fights to find her place in Bushwick’s changing landscape, or lose it all.

Ibi Zoboi's Pride is a strong option for summer reading and for sharing in a classroom or for homeschooling.

Not a good spin-off of P&P but so much potential

I really wanted to like this but the main character has nothing to do with Elizabeth, she is so aloof and for no reason most of the time. She never truly warms up and after a while, you really want her to chill. The author should have taken off the pride and prejudice part because it doesn't fit into the storyline. The writing is beautiful but can't save the rest. If you were expecting an insightful commentary on gentrification and complex, intriguing main characters, this is not for you. I am so disappointed, this is far from the amazing experience offered by American street.

Love it!

My department head bought this book for our level 3 ESL students and the absolutely loved it! We read a few books before this and it was like pulling teeth to get them interested. From the moment we started Pride they wanted more and more every day. They love the narrator, the story, and everything about it.

That being said, this was my first time reading the book and I couldn’t stop listening. I am a teacher who loves learning about other cultures and traditions, especially those within small pockets of areas we think we already know. Fantastic book!!

Beautiful words

Elizabeth Acevedo has a beautiful and poetic voice and I will listen to any book she reads. This coming of age story is no exception. Cute story told with passionate emotions about a young girl grasping the idea of leaving her love filled childhood and embracing the potential of the future outside her neighborhood.
