À propos de cet audio

The irresistible companion to the #1 New York Times bestseller Dumplin’, now a Netflix feature film starring Danielle Macdonald and Jennifer Aniston, and a soundtrack by Dolly Parton!

Millie Michalchuk has gone to fat camp every year since she was a little girl. Not this year. This year she has new plans to chase her secret dream of being a newscaster—and to kiss the boy she’s crushing on.

Callie Reyes is the pretty girl who is next in line for dance team captain and has the popular boyfriend. But when it comes to other girls, she’s more frenemy than friend.

When circumstances bring the girls together over the course of a semester, they surprise everyone (especially themselves) by realizing that they might have more in common than they ever imagined.

A story about unexpected friendship, romance, and Texas-size girl power, this is another winner from Julie Murphy.

I had just watched Dumplin' (not having read the book) and was charmed enough to seek out what happened next. While Puddin' isn't a sequel, it is set in the same universe, in the months following the pageant in Dumplin'. The story isn't as universal or as, well, heart-warming as the previous, but it was still eminently listenable (even for someone outside of the YA target audience). Millie is surprisingly relatable, and Callie narrowly avoids being a mean-girl cliche. There were a few groan/cringeworthy moments, but generally speaking, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. (I even got a little teary at one scene near the end, which is huge, haha). If you liked Dumplin', or are into YA high school centric stories, give it a shot.

listenable

Loved this one the most. The characters were written very well, and I found these two main characters more relatable than Willow Dean in the last novel Dumplin'. I think this book has a lot of great teaching points for any young teen struggling with body image, self acceptance, and social pressures. It checks all the boxes for me.

Even better than Dumplin'
