À propos de cet audio

Critical race theory is one of the hottest and most controversial topics in the world today, but what is it, really? Rightly understood, critical race theory is a reinvention of an older, terrible idea, Marxism, using race "as the central construct for understanding inequality" in place of economic class. That is, critical race theory is race Marxism. The evidence of this claim is so overwhelming upon even casual examination that it is a shock that it isn't immediately plain to everyone who encounters it. Therefore, this audiobook by James Lindsay, the leading investigator of critical race theory, serves less to make the case that critical race theory is race Marxism and more to serve as a long permission slip to the public to call critical race theory what it plainly is.

Race Marxism exists to tell the truth about critical race theory in unprecedented clarity and depth. Across its six weighty chapters, Lindsay explains what critical race theory is, what it believes, where it comes from, how it operates, and what we can do about it now that we know what we're dealing with. It exposes critical race theory for what it is by ranging widely across its own literature and a survey of some of the darkest philosophical currents of the last 300 in Western thought. Listeners will come away understanding critical race theory and be able to speak the truth about it with authority: Critical race theory is race Marxism, and, like all Marxist theories before it, it will not work this time.

interesting perspective

I found this book to be a comprehensive review of the comparison of historical texts related to Marxism and current Critical Race Theory. it is a lot to consider.

Brilliant Takedown of CRT Dogma

I never knew exactly how to describe CRT, or where it came from, but this book gives you a fairly in depth look at its origins.

I found the similarities to Marxism surprising, and close enough to the point where it IS just a reworked version of it. This book gave me enough info to articulate my arguments better, while also keeping things simple and calling out the danger of CRT with more confidence.

There are many more branches to this besides looking just at Marxism, so additional listening and reading may be required to fully understand the intricacies.

To be blunt though, the intricacies are not entirely important. What is important is to realize what the endgame is for all of this nonsense!

A pretentious explanation of a complex issue

I should say off the bat that I believe Critical Race Theory is supremely flawed, dangerous and yes, itself a racist ideology that needs to be curtailed. In theory, this book should be preaching to the choir with me. I came to it expecting to get a deeper dive into the historical and political roots of CRT, to better inform myself about it and to further harden my arsenal of argument when I'm talking to someone about it.

Instead, what I got was a pretentious lecture, read in a monotone and uninteresting manner by the author, who is clearly not qualified to be narrating audiobooks. As the title implies, it relies heavily on comparisons of CRT to Marxism. There are certainly a lot of through lines between the two, but it's also clear pretty early on that this author is writing as much to destroy Marxism as CRT. Comparisons are fine, but a takedown of Marxism is not what I'm here for.

Things are written in a /r/iamverysmart kind of way, where the author uses a lot of fancy language to make rather easy to understand points, frequently using 7 words when 3 will do. In aid of both padding out the length and in lieu of making his own points, he frequently cites lengthy quotes from other scholars, offering his own interpretation at the end. It comes across as "what this person was trying to say is...". Rather than make his own argument and use the quotes to back them up, he restorts to just parsing other people's words through his narrow lens. There's nothing wrong with that method to a point, but it's done so much here, it feels like the author couldn't write enough on his own and needs to lean on these to make a volume of decent length.

Overall, I was very disappointed in this. While I agree with its core premise, I think it did a bad job of explaining it and the delivery will most likely put you to sleep. If you want to get yourself informed of why CRT is bad, there are other places you can look. I recommend Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America by John Mcwhorter as a start.
