À propos de cet audio
"Narrator Susan Ericksen's performance vibrates with energy, as she portrays old and new characters in this series." —AudioFile on Desperation in Death, an Earphones Award winner.
In the new crime thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling J.D. Robb, a small and easily concealed weapon wreaks havoc, and the killer is just a face in the crowd.
Jenna’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It’s the best night of her life.
It’s the last night of her life.
Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it’s no use. He doesn’t know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needle—and when his girlfriend Nadine arrives, she knows the only thing left to do for the girl is call her friend, Lieutenant Eve Dallas.
After everyone on the scene is interviewed, lab results show a toxic mix of substances in the victim’s body—and for an extra touch of viciousness, the needle was teeming with infectious agents. Dallas searches for a pattern: Had any boys been harassing Jenna? Was she engaging in risky behavior or caught up in something shady? But there are no obvious clues why this levelheaded sixteen-year-old, passionate about her music, would be targeted.
And that worries Dallas. Because if Jenna wasn’t targeted, if she was just the random, unlucky victim of a madman consumed by hatred, there are likely more deaths to come.

The plot.
The plot line was one of the best of the ‘Death’ series. It held my interest and character development was superbly thought out.
I still have concerns about the narrator although she was a bit better for this novel, especially when voicing Dallas and Peabody. There were still moments where Ericksen’s voice was too shrill and forceful when unnecessary. A lower cadence can be as menacing and even more threatening than a high shrill voice.
I think I’ll stick to reading future books in the Dallas stories.

Definitely more modern.
I missed Somerset. Like that Peabuddy has grown. Could stand to be a little longer.

Excellent
It’s great to know that you’ll have an excellent and reliable read with a JD Robb book. This one didn’t let me down.

A mediocre Dallas story!
I’ve hated the narration of this series since I started listening to them two years ago. I just can’t get past the voice of an old lady for Eve and Peabody. I don’t know why I continue to listen instead of reading the series I’ve followed from the beginning.
As far as the story goes, it’s no big one. It’s put together with current headlines and Nora’s take on trying to be sensitive to realistic events. I saw the incel story coming with the last three books as she tries to stay on top of what would still be relevant in 40 years. And while I commend her for trying to be sensitive and forward. She would do with a young person (a grandchild or child) and a young content editor to help her story along. Even just someone with better ongoing knowledge of the scenes she’s trying to portray. While I’ve appreciated her willingness to even go there. With subjects that weren’t even a thing when she started this series so long ago, her more knowing crowd might find it a little off putting and ignorant that she glosses over some pretty important information.
I always look forward to a good In Death novel, but this one fell a little flat with all the same tropes and spinach, spaghetti and pizza.
Can we have Dallas and company please evolve a little?

Same old even with audio
I’ve read a number of “in death” books but this was the first audio one. The plot is the same old, same old - the same book is just rewritten over and over. The audio gave voice to the Irish “lilt” which was good but most of the character voices missed their mark. Peabody sounded awful and the Latino accent of Santiago sounded Irish. Generally did not like the narration.
