Overall I liked this book, but it was a bit of a rollercoaster at first. This was my be first book by Hiaasen so I really didn't know what to expect. It was at the start and at other times throughout very crude or lowbrow which is not my typical style. But there is definitely good satire in there and great writing like "despite his sobriety and competence, they learned to trust him". And once you get used to the idea that all the characters are kind of unlikable, it is easier to understand. Like all good satire it holds a much needed mirror to contemporary American culture. The narrator was great with all the voices, but especially the redneck.

If you know what you are getting into this is a solid book.
