À propos de cet audio
When renowned archeologist Gav Gendin discovers the wreck of an Ancient starship, with a stasis pod and a still living member of the extinct aliens inside, it should be the greatest triumph of his career. Instead, it ends in disaster and leads to his son, Siv, being placed in cryogenic sleep.
A century later, Siv Gendin wakes to a world in decline, a world where you do what you must to survive. With the help of a snarky, sentient AI companion named Silky, Siv becomes a top procurement specialist.
Enslaved to the Shadowslip Guild, Siv has little hope of ever being his own man. Until they offer him freedom in exchange for completing a practically suicidal mission. His target: a young girl with uncanny abilities. Rival criminal guilds, foreign governments, and religious extremists will risk all-out war to get their hands on her - for good reason.
With her mysterious link to the Ancients, this girl could reshape human civilization, perhaps even bring back the golden age Siv knew as a child. But only if he is willing to defy the Shadowslip and risk everything to keep her safe.
The Benevolency Universe
For over 3,000 years a superintelligence called the Benevolence guided humanity through an age of unprecedented peace, prosperity, and technological advancement. Now, a century after its collapse, our enemies multiply as we struggle to maintain our starfaring civilization and recover technology we once took for granted. But the Benevolence kept many secrets to itself, secrets that could shape the future of humanity.

I’m hooked
This is a great storyline, I am connected to the characters and rooting for them ! Even the AI I’m hoping he gets to fulfill his dreams.
Definitely will buy the whole series if they keep being as good as book one.

Good book if…
If you can make it through the middle part which I guess was necessary but kinda boring. They could have use that space to explain or tell some of the exploits that gave Siv his wealth and acquired assets.

Clever - If Unsophisticated - SciFi Adventure
Author David Alistair Hayden fashions a SciFi universe where a peacekeeping hegemony known as "The Benevolence" (enlightened by a quasi-divine spacefaring race called "The Ancients") has collapsed after three millennia due to a mysterious devastating "Tech Plague" - plunging the galaxy into anarchic chaos full of criminal organizations, religious cults, and competing autocracies. Into that story matrix Hayden drops über-thief-with-a-heart-of-gold Siv Gendin (with his brilliant implanted AI "chippy" 'Silky'). The author then develops an action-packed "rescue the prophesied savior maiden" story (the "Hyperphasic Messiah" in this book) very reminiscent of 'The Fifth Element'.
Hayden's sense of pacing is unsurpassed, his characters (particularly the nearly sentient Silky) are intriguing, and his vocabulary/prose/description are creditable. Less fortunately, the entire scenario is clearly aimed at providing an unchallenging futuristic romp. Do not expect any plausible scientific conjecture, deep thought-provoking moments, or serious contemplation if you give it a try.. the book turns out to be a bit of a wasted opportunity (given the fascinating setting).
In toto: 'Rogue Starship' is fun but forgettable.
Likewise disappointing: the reading performance from Peter Kenny is notably subpar. Mr Kenny's diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are capable enough - but he reads too quickly (setting playback speed at 0.90X restores a comfortable rate), and exhibits a sibilance that Podium Audio engineers struggle to soften. His voice-acting is furthermore quite cartoonish at times.
If you are able to set your expectations appropriately, this 6.5/10 star distraction is great for a long drive or a couple of snowy afternoons.
It is entirely appropriate for Audible to offer the audiobook as a 'Plus' selection, however.. because spending a Credit on it would be a debatable decision.
[Note: the slutty but motherly reptilian succubus-like character 'Mitsuki Reel' is just weird]
