Doyle, an Irish Catholic and former Boston mayor, has done his best to keep his two sons interested in politics, from the day he and his now deceased wife became their parents, through their childhoods, and now in their lives as college students. Though the two boys are African-American, the bonds of the family's love have never been tested. But as the snow begins to fall, an accident triggers into motion a series of events that will forever change their lives.

Run is at its very center, is a novel about what truly defines family and the lengths we will go to protect our children. As she did in her best-selling novel Bel Canto, Patchett beautifully weaves together seemingly disparate lives to show how intimately humans can connect. Another great Ann Patchett story!

Characters are so well described you feel you know them! Patchett has an amazing ability to weave a complex tale from simple triggering incidents. Love her books and the only reason i'm giving this a 4 and not a 5 is that I enjoyed a couple of her books slightly more than this one!

It was very hard to get into. I thought it was an Interesting idea. I just couldn’t get into it.

Intriguing Storyline

I enjoyed this book. Interesting characters and a great idea for the plot. I wish the author had better resolved certain character’s inner struggles, as in some ways, I felt she skipped to the end, leaving me wanting something deeper for characters like Sullivan. Narration was was great, but musical interludes between sections / chapters seemed out of place and poorly timed.

Community, Family, Self

Great story. Some unexpected turns and good character development kept the interest up. I appreciate Pachette’s exploration of relationship.

The performance was distracting and did not compliment the story line. The music segues were simply annoying and didn’t contribute anything to the experience.
