Description
A gripping apocalyptic thriller about a man and his family running for their lives in an America gone mad—from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter and Recursion
No time to think. No time to ask why. Only time to run.
Five days ago, the epidemic of rage began.
Four days ago, the rash of senseless murders swept the nation.
Three days ago, the president addressed the country and begged for peace—even as the murders increased tenfold.
Two days ago, the killers began to mobilize.
One day ago, the power went out.
And tonight, the killers are reading the names of those to be killed over the Emergency Broadcast System.
Jack Colclough is listening over the battery-powered radio on his kitchen table in Albuquerque, and he just heard his name. People are coming to his house to kill him, his wife, his daughter, and his son.
He has no idea what’s happening, or why, but the time for questions is long past.
His only chance is to run.
Following an ordinary family on a desperate race through an America that’s destroying itself, Run is a terrifying, brutally stripped-down thriller from master storyteller Blake Crouch.

Narrator ruined it for me
My biggest gripe with audiobooks over the physical format is you’re at the mercy of a performance and interpretation of a narrator. A lot of time the narrator will add inflections and cadences that enhance the story well beyond what my minds eye is capable of imagining. Other times, you’re left rolling your eyes at some of these choices. Unfortunately in the case of this book, it constantly sounds like everyone is arguing with each other even in moments where I don’t think it was the narrator’s interpretation. The characters feel unlikable to me because it sounds like they’re constantly whining. I listened to Where the Crawdads Sing (do not recommend) a year ago and that narrator had the same issue. It’s a difficult balancing act, especially with the book like this where character development takes backseat to plot and pace. I would love to relisten with another narrator.

Run they must, run they do!!
I love the majority of Crouch's work,; he always has a unique take on traditional sci-fi. This is no exception, this is an apocalyptic event based story, but with a focus on the characters, rather than the event itself. The journey and quest for survival is the key ingredient in any end of days esq sortyline, what a journey it is in this book. NON-STOP action, quick-paced, and the usual amazing narration from the legend that is Scott Brick.
Other reviews complain about the 'shouting style', but wouldn't you be stressed and shouting when you are on the run from maniacs trying to kill you?! He doesn't specialize in accents by any means, but he has an emotive style that suits the theme of this book beautifully.

Unoriginal zombie story with politically charged undertones
Without spoiling a major premise of the book, it's hard to explain how this book uses Christian tropes (the light) in a derogatory way and then aligns those infected as deranged psychopaths murdering anyone who did not see it. Way to denigrate a hige segment of the population. Your liberal ideology shone thru brightly, blinding what could have been a good book. I was fan upon reading dark matter years ago. I'm sad to say even aside from your not so clever attempt to confiscate your ideology and instead annoying your readers, you've managed to write a weak story and will no longer be reading your books.
