Candy Palmater
À propos de cet audio
A powerful, often funny, always inspiring memoir from a beloved comedian, professional orator, actor, entertainer, gone all too soon.
Candy Palmater loved to connect with people. She lived for the stage, her effervescent presence on television and radio ignited and inspired audiences, touching them with her warm, often spicy humor as well as her positive message about love and kindness. And she always believed that it is never too late to pursue our dreams and that we should never allow others to negatively influence our life’s desires.
Candy described herself as a queer Mi’kmaw lawyer-turned-comic raised by bikers in rural New Brunswick and on the surface, she met with enormous success—on leaving government and the practice of law, she started a career as a stand-up comedian, which led to starring in five successful seasons of her own national TV show, hosting many radio shows and co-guest hosting CTV’s The Social, and landing a recurring role on a hot new sitcom in her fifties. But she is the first to tell you she made all kinds of mistakes and experienced all kinds of failure along the way. Running Down a Dream is Candy’s story, in her own words, of the highs, the lows, the moments of doubt, the turning points when she listened to her gut and tuned out all the people saying no. It’s also a tribute to her family and the love that always bolstered her, despite their own hard times. She shares her stories to inspire us to embrace our failures and to believe in ourselves. And most importantly, Running Down a Dream is a call to love ourselves for who we are.
The world lost Candy in late 2021, and yet she left us with this gift—a memoir and a message that will inspire us for years to come.

I really miss her :(
I never got to meet Candy, but I’ve always admired her from afar and she inspired me in ways she will never know. Her passing really affected me in a way I didn’t expect and this book brought some comfort as her spirit lives on through her stories .
You’ll find this book particularly endearing if you are from The North Shore in New Brunswick and love Halifax.
I hope Denise had been doing okay.

Candy was a Powerful Light in this World
I followed Candy’s career. I first found her on YouTube. I am so grateful to have seen Candy twice in person. I attended a Conference for Principals in BC and she was the Keynote speaker. I also saw her at Seneca college in Toronto. She was a powerhouse, a beautiful and thought provoking speaker. She made you laugh, she made you cry and she made you think. I got to meet Candy and Denise on both occasions and those meetings are memories I will cherish. Candy talked about how each one of us is enough. She shared her message of love, hope and kindness. If you met her, you would always remember her and you could feel the amazing energy she gave off. She lived her life to the fullest with an amazing person by her side, Denise. I knew she was writing this book and I couldn’t wait to read it. Her book did not disappoint. She wrapped you right into her story.. Of course one wishes Candy was able to read her memoir herself, however I think Aaliya was the perfect choice. She did Candy justice with her narration. To honour Candy we should continue where she left off, to fill this world with our dreams, to know we are enough, to never give up, to show love and kindness to others. I love when she said that there is always a gift that comes out of our disappointments. How sometimes when something happens that might seem to be awful there is a gift that comes with it. Thank you Candy for sharing your message with the world. Thank you Denise for your additions to Candy’s story. She loved you very much

This book touched me deeply !
Loved this book! It was nostalgic to the core. Born and raised in a Dalhousie NB, Candy’s words touched me deeply. Her honesty and rawness left me feeling intrigued and inspired! At 16 years, I was one of her softball coaches in Dalhousie.
