too much damsel in distress, idiot heroes

Fumbled the ending. The story constantly goes back to the well on the captured damsel, to the point where the books have had multiple damsels from characters who used to not be simpering idiots. Its been used constantly for the series and its become incredibly tired. The hero gives in to demands then the bad guys betrays their word literally everytime. godlike stoic hero isnt ever able to make the hard choices.

Youd think the hero would learn. I expected the training stones to make chalaine not useless and naive. she remains a damsel in distress prop that defeats our hero constantly by being absolutely completely useless in every situation.

Didnt care much for the ash witch nonsense. Her motivations are too chaotic and has a poorly defined character. A plot device for either side wherever its convenient.

Overall this book ends with everyone except Maewen and Gerand being a naive idiot.
