But as she tackles the complex equations, she falls prey to disturbing visions of a divine being who wants to help her unveil the universe’s mathematical design. Interesting premise, captivating story, but ultimately disappointing

I have mixed feelings about Saint Joan of New York.

It touches on many topics: string theory and religion, of course, but also mental health issues, teenage LGBTQ awakenings, and a bit of a political thriller mixed in for good measure. It seems geared to young adults.

It won’t give you much insight into the theory of everything, but was coming together as an interesting and entertaining story. However, ultimately I found it didn’t pull the strings together into a satisfying conclusion, having lost its way to that eureka moment.

That said, it was a captivating and wonderful performance by Jesse Vilinsky.

I recommend it as a fun, but flawed piece of fiction (as long as you don’t expect too much).
