the kitten of nights beginnings
I thought the story was an excellent addition to the series and I would have loved to have given the performance 5 stars the only problem was that the voice actress mispronounced a few of the names of things Pacific to the series on a whole I would give the review a 9.5 out of 10

Magi in a Mage-ocracy or Magg-ocracy?
This is an established series. Why didn't reader research the pronunciation of core terms used in the first 12+ novels and several related anthologies? It is so grating and disrupts the flow for me. Nevertheless I enjoyed it and hope to hear more about the "kitten" and her family.

Great addition and true series in it's own right.
The writing was fantastic. All the subterfuge you would expect from a family of shadowmagi. They focused on thieving skills from a mundane perspective as opposed to magic as the main character hasn't come into her rajira (magic) yet. The whole book was well done and all about character development. It felt more like a completely separate book in the same world than any of the side novels or cadet series. It had less "winks and nods" to tie in to what we already know as this takes place around book 2 in the main series. Not a bad thing, but it helps establish the book as a seperate novel that just happens to take place on the same world as the main series. The narrator was really good. I only take one star for lack of consistency with established pronunciation in the main series and its cadet series. Obviously each narrator will make their performance their own, but it was clear from the beginning that the narrator had never listened to any of the previous installments of the series. Even just for reference. As a serious fan, it was painful to hear really basic "words of Callidore" pronounced in ways that don't even quite make sense phonetically. Still highly recommend this book, looking forward to the next one!

Good YA in the world of the Spellmonger
Good YA in the world of the Spellmonger
Story and characters were great.
Fiona has an excellent voice, emotion and accents were enjoyable.
However certain known Callidore John Lee pronunciations were off:
Magocracy
Thinradle
Irionite
At one point “baronial” was mispronounced.
This detracted from it’s authenticity.
Overall a good listen though.

Good narration. Boring story.
This is the perfect Spellmonger book to read to your kids at bedtime. It's fully PG and it'll definitely put them to sleep. The narration was very good though.

Awful Narration
As a superfan of Terry Mancour’s Spellmonger series narrated by John Lee, I was sorely disappointed with the piss-poor narration of this book. The narrator completely mispronounced all of the key terms and place names of the Spellmonger universe. It grated on my nerves for the entire listen and I found myself relieved of the torture at book’s end. Not only did the narrator flub all of the important pronunciations, she constantly misplaced emphasis to the point where it became difficult to follow the story. Her accent sounded fake as well. It’s hard to believe she was chosen to butcher this series of Mancour’s.
