Writer Colleen Hobbs is sent by her boss back to her hometown to cover the first murder the town has seen in decades. The victim is a man Colleen herself would have happily killed. She winds up trapped in a cabin, due to a flooded roadway, with Sheriff's Deputy Captain Chris Steele. Colleen hasn't seen him since they graduated from high school in 1986.
