An amazing, creepy collection of short stories
The book starts off very strong and continues all the way through.
Now granted some stories aren't as strong as others, but this book had me HOOKED from front to back. Even during some of the weaker moments. There are several unforgettable, skin crawling, and well written stories in here, that it's a must have for any horror fan! Especially for any aspiring King fans.
Not only are the stories creepy, but the narration really plays a big part in illustrating these stories. Definitely don't skip out on this one!! #audible1

Beautiful Start That Withers By The End.
This collection of short stories started off real strong with some of Stephen King’s most atmospheric stories with characters that I found I cared for and wondered what would happen to them as the stories went on. As I neared the end I found the stories to start becoming a little nonsensical and I had a hard time following that last 5-6 stories. Some of the standouts were The Raft, one of King’s most claustrophobic stories, 4 kids stuck on a raft, a monster lurks in the water, what will become of them? The Monkey was another really strong one that was very unsettling and creepy, a monkey that bangs cymbals, each time he does bad things happen, read it to find out what. Survivor Type, King’s most grisly story, a man stuck on a pile of rocks in the middle of the ocean with no means of escape or hope for help, hunger sets in, how hungry can a man get? Mrs. Todd’s Shortcut, a beautiful imaginative romp through a mysterious world, finding ways to get from Point A to Point B in the shortest way possible, but is it really possible? The Jaunt, King’s version of a space sci-fi, jump on the Jaunt and have a look for yourself.
I’d recommend this collection to any fan of Stephen King, and anyone looking for some grisly and atmospheric horror stories. Not for the ones with a weak stomach, this collection gets messy.
Overall I give this collection a 3/5. The performances were exceptional some really good narration in this collection, with only a few weak ones sprinkled throughout. The writing of the stories varied in quality with some of King’s best work, but also some of his worst, with the last 5-6 stories being fairly uninteresting and hard to follow.

Good, not amazing.
I got it initially for The Mist, and was mostly convinced by the stellar narration cast (Michael C. Hall is great for King's writing, and Paul Giamatti was a pleasant surprise. Amazing voice work.). I found a gem in The Jaunt, but otherwise wasn't too captured by the rest of the stories. They're not bad, some were pretty good, with humor peppered in here and there which is nice. It's not my usual read, so that's probably why it wasn't a hit for me, but people who read anthologies or just love Stephen King in general might enjoy this more than I did.
All in all, not bad, but not a favorite of mine.

Great collection

Great book
This is one of King’s best selection of stories. It’s nice to listen to these novellas..

High-Quality Short Stories
There is no doubt that Stephen King's writing style is better-suited to longer formats (the Novel and Novella provide more time for him to explore his incredible imaginings more fully). Despite the drawbacks inherent in these short offerings, however, King shows off his skills in providing shockingly realistic characters, guy-at-the-end-of-the-bar dialogue, and unmatched gut-punch description (the gore is mind's-eye horrifying). These stories are clever in concept and amazing in execution.
As in any compendium, there are a few stories that are spectacular and a few that won't match your tastes. In fact, some are tales of suspense, some are conventional horror stories, and some are actually Science Fiction offerings. There's even a pulpy 30s gangland story here. You're in for some treats and some not-so-treats.
Regardless, every tale is of the highest quality.
Similarly, the variety of readers is hit & miss in 'Skeleton Crew' with all providing professional takes. Some are straight-up brilliant.. while others are distinctly ho-hum.
Having listened to a number of short story collections, this one is genuinely excellent. Despite containing a couple of subpar selections, this book merits 9 stars out of 10 when taken in toto. Fortunately, Simon & Schuster Audio provide a navigable menu: you can look up your favorites and listen to them again at your leisure. Spend the Credit on this one.
