High school all-American Neely Crenshaw was the best quarterback to play for the Messina Spartans. 15 years have gone by since those glory days, and Neely has come home to Messina to bury Coach Eddie Rake, the man who molded the Spartans into a football dynasty. Now, as Coach Rake's "boys" sit in the bleachers waiting for the dimming field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old games, relive the old glories, and try to decide once and for all whether they love Eddie Rake or hate him.

The holiday film A Christmas Story, first released in 1983, has become a bona fide Christmas perennial, gaining in stature and fame with each succeeding year. Its affectionate, wacky, and wryly realistic portrayal of an American family's typical Christmas joys and travails in small-town Depression-era Indiana has entered our imagination and our hearts with a force equal to It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street.

The office of the public defender is not known as a training ground for bright young litigators. Clay Carter has been there too long and, like most of his colleagues, dreams of a better job in a real firm. When he reluctantly takes the case of a young man charged with a random street killing, he assumes it is just another of the many senseless murders that hit DC every week. As he digs into the background of his client, Clay stumbles on a conspiracy too horrible to believe.

Nice but hasn't aged well.
I listened to this story after reading it many years ago, and while the heart of the story is great and there are some entertaining parts, unfortunately a lot of moments in the story haven't aged well. There are quite a few culturally insensitive remarks and comments that verge on being racist, and some politically incorrect moments that really took away from the overall story. I think I'll be enjoying the Christmas with the Kranks movie from now on, rather than revisiting the original novella.

My Favourite
I have listened to this book countless times. Just my go to when I want to relax and have something in the background. I use to read the book constantly, now I just listen.

Better than the Movie!
I watched the movie version of the book a few years ago and thought it was rather corny. But listening to the book and the narration by Dennis Boutsikaris it was indeed very enjoyable.

Just overall unpleasant
The main characters were quite unlikable, which I understand was for comedic/satiric reasons, but I also found there to be some pretty offensive racism and misogyny casually reoccurring in this book, as a warning. Overall, I did not enjoy.
