À propos de cet audio

A classic Ngaio Marsh mystery thriller combining drugs and sacrifice.

High in the mountains stands the magnificent Saracen fortress, home of the mysterious Mr. Oberon, leader of a coven of witches.

It is not the historic castle, however, that intrigues Roderick Alleyn, on holiday with his family, but the suspicion that a huge drugs ring operates from within its ancient portals. But before the holiday is over, someone else has stumbled upon the secret. And Mr. Oberon decides his strange and terrible rituals require a human sacrifice....

Bottom line, you can easily skip this one.

'Spinsters in Jeopardy' is so bad it will be of interest only to people who feel they must read/listen to every single book in the series. If you read or have read widely from the cozy mystery genre and from other genre popular from the 1920s-1960s you may have noticed that most prolific authors of the time eventually wrote a story like this, with their characters diving into the occult, spiritualism, eastern religion, eastern philosophy, egyptology, and drugs. Most did not mash all of those themes into the same story, but Ngaio marsh sure did. The only trope she left out of the melange was perhaps the James Bond esque super villan and matching jet set super spy, but unfortunately she did lever in an Agatha Christie homage/rip off (murder seen from a stopped train) and wasted a major kidnapping plot with the most poorly characterized underreactions on the part of her hero.

Ric Jerrom's narration is perfectly adequate but could not save the experience given the material he had to work with
