À propos de cet audio

The fate of empire is to crumble from within.

Duke Oliver Wellesley and the Priestess Samantha unmasked and destroyed a cabal of sorcerers planning an incredible sacrifice. But preventing the horrific bloodshed left lingering questions, and new attacks close to home prove the danger is not over.

Oliver must choose between his responsibilities to his family and the Crown, and seeking answers over the far horizon. As he struggles with the weight of expectation, he discovers new powers and an ancient magic that has been long forgotten. The tide of sorcery rises, and Oliver begins to understand that a sharp quill and a steel broadsword are not enough. To face the threat of the underworld, he’ll have to call upon the spirits of life.

Sam’s occult knowledge continues to grow, but in the face of new monsters, she realizes it is not enough, and the path to true strength is a dark one. Knowing the risk, she hesitates, but an unusual mentor opens the door to secrets best left unknown, and grants the opportunity to exceed what she thought was possible. But once upon it, the dark path is a difficult one to turn from, and the spirits of the underworld are treacherous allies.

The fate of empire is to crumble from within. Do not ask when, ask who.

Could of used more polish.

I waited to review any of the books in this series until I finished the lot which helped in the end as after three repetitions the faults become glaringly obvious. The first problem is the old chest nut of show don’t say. There are plenty of instances that something is said about a character that is either shown to be untrue or never backed up by their actions. Another issue is world building. This world feels incredibly small and fairly the same except for the island colony. The mystery in these books is fairly non existent as the secret bad guys give themselves away in the same way all three times. Finally the two leads Duke and Sam suffer as they hardly ever live up to the descriptions the author gives them and often break for plot convenience especially in the second half of each book as they become breathtakingly stupid and ignore many points they would of picked up before. Sam rapidly becomes aggravating to read as her head plans become inane and her behaviour demonstrates that she cares only for herself. Her small bouts of sexual tension with Duke really don’t manifest in anyway meaningful to the point that it probably would of been better to remove them utterly. Her knowledge of the dark path as the author calls it is laughable as more then half of the occasion she is asked for information on what is attacking she shrugs her shoulders and says she doesn’t know. Now Duke. This is hard because I half like him. First off he is not brilliant, he is passing average at best. He has a clever idea once or twice but then he becomes a moron. How charming is in question as well as how much of a ladies man he is as each time he gets propositioned by a woman he becomes a stammering mess. With all that add some sex scenes that come across and very adolescent, the cartographer series is a C+. Good but needs a lot of work.
