À propos de cet audio

What do you do when life makes a sharp left turn?

When the coronavirus pandemic hit, Terry Hershey found himself unexpectedly asking that question; and as a popular speaker and author, he was inundated with other people asking it too.

In Stand Still, Hershey lays out the answer: that in every unforeseen challenge there is an invitation to pause, re-evaluate the status quo, and welcome the change of heart that is knocking on your door. “Transformative events will be hard,” he writes. “So, whatever love is in your heart…Nurture it. Develop it. Grow it. Spread it.”

Through real-life stories, thoughtful reflections, and questions to meditate on, you will receive in these minutes renewed perspective for a mindful approach to the present moment that can get you through any hardship. Writing in his trademark lighthearted and friendly style, Hershey will encourage you to embrace the challenges of life with hope, curiosity, and a relentless optimism that goodness can be found anywhere - yes, even right where you are today.

You Might Never Think of Sheep the Same Way Again

Terry's previous book, "This is the Life", continues to be the only Audible choice I have listened to multiple times and I am likely to listen to it many more.

This book, while repeating a few examples and stories of the previous one, offers you a radical idea when facing tumultuous times: be still. Allow the change to be as it is.

Again, the effect of listening to Terry narrate this is worth the price of admission itself. His is a settling tone and rhythm of speech which in itself beckons us into the slower pace he is speaking about.

Oh, and this one has sheep. Wonderful and wise and patient sheep. You might not have a congregation of sheep to speak with; however, a grove of trees or a patch of flowers or a flock of birds might just do the trick.

I did not find this book as challenging as the one before, perhaps due to its length or the repetition of some material, yet I can also see myself listening to it again and again. It is not complex. It will likely not expand your consciousness with impressive new knowledge. It will instead invite you into a rhythm you may often resist, one which requires the more stubborn of us (i.e. myself) to be invited multiple times before cautiously stepping into a different experience and find, finally, a burden that doesn't crush and expectations which neither overwhelm or bore.

Small spoiler: there is a reveal near the end which threw me for a loop, wondering "What? But that's part of what makes Terry Terry! How can he go and do this?" Perhaps I will re-listen to it one more time to find an answer...
