À propos de cet audio
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this gripping sequel to Star Wars: The Rising Storm, the light of the Jedi faces its darkest hour.
Time and again, the vicious raiders known as the Nihil have sought to bring the golden age of the High Republic to a fiery end. Time and again, the High Republic has emerged battered and weary but victorious thanks to its Jedi protectors—and there is no monument to their cause grander than the Starlight Beacon.
Hanging like a jewel in the Outer Rim, the Beacon embodies the High Republic at the apex of its aspirations: a hub of culture and knowledge, a bright torch against the darkness of the unknown, and an extended hand of welcome to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. As survivors and refugees flee the Nihil’s attacks, the Beacon and its crew stand ready to shelter and heal.
The grateful Knights and Padawans of the Jedi Order stationed there finally have a chance to recover—from the pain of their injuries and the grief of their losses. But the storm they thought had passed still rages; they are simply caught in its eye. Marchion Ro, the true mastermind of the Nihil, is preparing his most daring attack yet—one designed to snuff out the light of the Jedi.

On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

Pretty good
It was a good book overall with some slower parts in the middle, read directly after the rising storm and this book isn’t on quite the same level, but again, as always an amazing performance from Marc!

Amazing
I felt like these books progressively got better and better and this one really sent it home. I loved the thriller aspect of it mixed with action and sadness, the plot twists around each corner had me guessing and wanting more and more each chapter. I would recommend this to anyone and I can’t wait to see where the high republic takes us next

Snooze fest
Honestly Marc Thompson’s performance was incredible. Unfortunately this story was a snooze fest. Way too much time wasted jumping around useless characters. This entire story could have been told in half the book with less useless character banter. Now it feels like this storyline is being intentionally dragged out and on.

Potentially my least favourite star-wars book
I'll read anything stars wars. I'm not discerning... I started Canon, and have just been gobbling it all up. Some is better than others but I like almost all of it. The high republic stuff started well in my opinion and has weakened, but this book was the peak of painful at times. I read/listen/watch Star Wars because it's an escape where generally some space-faring force wielding heroes can solve some obstacles/battles and make us all feel good. Or I can learn how Thrawn is the best ProAntagonsist I've ever read about.
If I wanted to be dragged through the mud for hours on end, and get 4 different painful angles on each disaster, I would become a New York Jets fan and buy season tickets.
Marc Thompson does a fantastic job with anything he does, he certainly can't be faulted. I finished it at least. I'm not sure how much of this is on Gray, or the High Republic Story line that they were likely asked to follow. Hard to know whether this story could have been saved by another author.

Bad choice. Found the story hard to follow. Extremely a half baked cake. Bad character development.

Marc Thompson rescues a stinker of a story
Without spoiling anything; this is a Star Wars themed disaster drama and a bad one at that. There is no conflict, no war. The antagonists aren't even confronted, the story follows too many characters and jumps around at random, the same exact plot devices are reused many times over with no character agency, powerful characters act powerless, characters act completely out of character with throwaway explanations, there are no acts, no climax, almost nonexistent character arcs, most interesting events you are told about, not shown, and so on. Almost every story writing sin was committed by this author. You'll feel frustrated by the story of this audiobook.
In the starkest of contrasts, Marc Thompson has delivered his best performance yet. An amazing range of emotions, voices, and impressions, all clearly narrated. Even the almost constant repetition of the scant story beats are made engaging by the Herculean performance of the narrator. BRAVO MARC THOMPSON! I only wish his talents graced better works! Sound effects and music were also mostly on point, with some sound effects missing here and there.

Getting Darker...
First off, Marc Thompson delivers another amazing performance for this next instalment of the high republic.
Claudia Gray also delivers a interesting story too; building characters we've already gotten to know, and creating some real heart wrenching moments. Elzar Mann and Stellan Gios get some good page time and development, as well as Bell Zettifar and Burryaga. The crew of the Vessel are great in this one too.
I was definitely left with some unanswered questions from previous novels, and I found it focused a bit to much on the character Nan; who Im struggling to care about. However I'm sure its all to build to something bigger down the line.
A great continuation to be sure, and will be watching for the next in this series.

very disappointed
the story like could have been a short story that required 10 chapters. it's a space station that is falling into an atmosphere. in most SW storied this would be a side note.
The plot development was drawn out.
The character development was non existent. I developed no connection to any o te characters. in fact I was starting to hope that they all died off by chapter 5!
The voice actor has talent but I swear I heard impersonations of Hollywood actors.
The characters are whining through out most of the story. well to be honest I had to stop listening so to be more accurate through the portion I listened to.
Do not waste your time or money. This book is not worth it.
