Not a fan of Jim Bond
I love this series, I have for years. After listening to Wizard’s First Rule read by Sam Tsoutsouvas, the bar had been set pretty high. Jim seemed to at times be too monotone, lacking feeling and at other times seem confused in voicing the characters. He made quite a few characters at times sound very whiny. And in 3 places managed to mix up Zedd and Adie in a conversation they had with each other. At times Zedd seemed to suddenly have an accent that made me think Irish or something. Fairly early on into the book I seriously considered returning it and just reading the paperback instead. I stuck with it only because trying to sit and read a novel with young children around is near impossible. I gave Jim an extra star because I felt he picked up his performance a bit at the end. I was very disappointed in how whiny and weak the characters sounded in places I myself had read very differently. I was also disappointed to discover that Sam does not narrate again until book 10. I hope the next one lives up to my expectations :)

Interesting Storyline
Many of the characters are flat and cliche. The part when Richard and Kahlen profess their love made me cringe.... I just about could not handle it. Other than that, it is a great book. I would recommend speeding up the playing speed to 1.3 because the narrator is slow.

Amazing series!
Loved the story, narrator is a bit robotic sounding, but you do get used to it. Don't let it discourage you from listening to this book.

Reader made me want to shut it off.
Whenever the reader tried to embellish voices in whiny or emotional tones I wanted to shut off the book.
He's incapable of delivering changes well.
Normal voice would have been preferable.

The performance is terrible
I loved the first book but am painfully trying to get through this book. The voice actor had no idea how people have conversations. He sounds like a scooby doo ghost throughout the book.
It’s the first time in 60+ books I’m forced to listen at 2X speed to get it over with.

The Start
Richard starts to learn how to be himself. which brings some fun story moments. some new characters are introduced that will be favorites in books to come. but the reading was one of the worst I have heard in my opinion. I only finished listening to the whole thing since I read the book before and enjoyed the story.

Love the book but the narrator wasn’t my favorite.
I love the sword of truth series. I’ve read them all before about a decade ago and decided to listen to them this time. Wizard’s First Rule was narrated exceptionally by Sam Tsoutsouvas but Jim Bond just missed the mark.

Great story, poor narration
I have read 6 books into the series and decided to start over listening to the audio books. The first book “Wizard’s First Rule” was excellent all around. However the narration in the stone of tears is atrocious. The reader sounds like a robot. Not a pleasant experience.

Great Story. Poor Narration.
Same as the other reviews state. I will say that I think the narrator improves as the book goes on, but overall not great. Poor character voice variations. Often mispronounced words. Overall robotic sound. Occasionally these things took me out of my immersion in the story.
