À propos de cet audio
The shocking and illuminating memoir of an anonymous submissive immersed in the BDSM community, reckoning with the divide between our desires and the expectations and strictures that keep us from pursuing them.
Sonnet is a writer. She is a professional with a wide network of important people. She is athletic, creative and successful. She always remembers to send Christmas cards.
Sonnet also likes to be caned. She likes to be humiliated. She likes to go into a room blindfolded with ten strangers and have them do whatever they want to her.
Sonnet likes whatever you tell her she likes.
This is the secret memoir of a submissive. A vivid, electric, stunning account of how one woman gets her kicks. It is all true.

“There’s a beautiful irony at the heart of this book. Because Sonnet’s story is not really about submission, it’s about resistance - the heroic refusal to live a life that was meant for somebody else.”—Keiran Goddard, author of Hourglass and I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning
"This book gave me an insight into a world I know very little about. It’s eye-opening, jaw-dropping and also inspiring. I love how Sonnet follows her desires with a spirit of adventure and fun. Nothing is shamed and nothing is off limits. It made me want to be bolder and braver. A liberating read."—Marianne Power, author of global bestseller Help Me!

Eye-opening memoir of a sexually adventurous woman
So after doing a search on Audible, I stumbled upon this book and decided to give it a listen. Plus I have been non-fiction books only for years and I most enjoy listening to a woman narrator.
This book has an excellent narrator she has a great UK accent and puts a lot of emotion into it, she is perfect for this book. It would have been even better if it was the author’s voice, but I do understand that she wants to remain anonymous. I should state right away that this book has very graphic sex scenes, including hard-core BDSM and as such I would give this the highest age requirement of 21+, just to be certain.
I think that the author is an amazing woman, and I think it’s very brave of her to be so honest about her desires and kinks. She does a great job in this book of describing, by most people's standards, very wild sex encounters with a juxtaposition of commentary on various topics that matter to her such as AI, women’s rights, why monogamous relationships are not for her, feelings of jealousy, open relationships, and all sorts of other topics. I think it’s wonderful that she found someone to explore her sexual nature with in a safe consensual way. As a writer myself, I loved how she was constantly going back to books that she either read or was introduced to by people she met. She brings up interesting ideas about faith and how we connect with our people and she ultimately likes to talk about how we all get lost in our heads and our world. She says, and I agree, that we don’t connect enough with the physical world and our bodies. I don’t necessarily agree with her attacking Descartes and his “cogito ergo sum” doctrine (I think therefore I am). I think Descartes was talking about something very much different from her experiences and he did not exclude the physical body, he was more talking about consciousness and how we are different from other animals.
I think this book is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in BDSM and taking their sex life to a different place/level. She gives wonderful advice and ultimately you can see that she is very happy with the choices she’s made. I think this shows the way many people now approach relationships, and sexuality in a much different way than people have 10-15 or certainly 40-50 years ago. I also loved her idea that when you truly bare your innermost desires/fantasies to another person and then act them out together, it makes it much easier to form a close connection with that person, as you already know each other on a deeper level.
I wish there was a way I could contact Sonnet, as I would love to talk with her about this book. I thought the ending was fantastic, while I’ve never read Hunter S. Thompson, I agree that drugs and sex can unlock your consciousness and that life is a great adventure, you just have to be open to experiencing it. I hope that maybe she sees this review and gets in contact with me, it has happened before! So while I love this book, there are sections in it that are pushing the boundaries of what I can comfortably listen to. By that, I mean some of the scenes have so much violence, which I know is consensual, but is still disturbing to listen to, I listened but I found myself taking breaks. I also will give an unusual complaint in that I found this book too short, I hope that she writes more as she is an excellent writer and has many wonderful stories to tell, I felt the last 3 chapters were the best and it was a shame to end it when the writing was at it’s best. I would also say that perhaps the extreme difference between topics that interest her and descriptions of her sexual liaisons don’t always mesh together, at least not always to my taste. I would say that this was one of the best books I listened to in 2024 and would highly recommend us to anyone who has an open mind and is not offended by graphic sexual and sometimes violent descriptions. Obviously don’t let children read this, it is most certainly only for adults. Take a chance and hear a different point of view from an intelligent, funny, and fascinating person, you’ll be glad you did.
