Narrator saved the day!
It could have been a more interesting story had the content lived up to the Audible "apocalyptic" category. The characters were cliché and dialogue for women was a cringe. If not for the narrator giving life to the characters and credibility to their circumstances, I would have abandoned this book. His seeming faith in the story made me curious how the various storylines would come together in the end... no surprises there. I learned a lot about volcanoes!

Not quite what I expected from the title
I’d have liked the story to focus more on the environmental events leading up to and including the eruption. That being said, I feel this story is more about the indifference and selfishness of society told from the point of view of some rather shallow and entitled individuals. The protagonist and his love interest are certainly the least unpleasant of a fairly irritating bunch.
I can’t quite decide if the unnatural lack of worry and concern for the fate of their loved ones and the human race in general, is due to the author’s own ennui or the whole point of the book. I’m leaning towards the latter and will give the next book in the trilogy a chance.

It has its moments 
The only intriguing parts of this book were between chapters 9 and 11, every other chapter after that felt drawn out, and the chapters before that the same story. Very disappointed with this book.
