Tamora Pierce at her finest
Not only has Pierce's writing matured, but she's back with the same wonderful magical world as ever. I enjoyed Ari Meyers' narration as well, she was able to find a voice for each character, and there were so many of them!

definitely worth reading
well written and beautifully read. I still love Tamora Pierce's books as much as I did when I was 13

Loved Tortall and affiliated countries for decades
So legitimately I couldn't NOT love this book. But like. The overwhelming empathy of Pierce's characters is always my favourite.
Love this look at Ozorne and Numair and all the incredible depth shes knit into this world ive been peeking into since I was 13.

My Favorite Book

This story is excellent
I highly recommend the entire Tortall Universe, starting with the best of the best, the Song of the Lioness Quartet, and go from there, this was just an amazing journey because you get to know Numair in the other books as a put together adult and truly understand his character and kindness so much more now, I cannot wait for the next book in his story. I hope Tamora Pîerce just lives forever, and these books never stop.

Enlightening Backstory
I love love love Tamora Pierce and I was very excited to finally hear Numair's back story - as one of the few male centric stories she's focused on, I thought he must have been extremely interesting! I'm looking forward to seeing how his relationship with Ozorne evolves.
The narrator sometimes used simular voices for Arram and Ozorne so I couldn't tell who was talking. A few characterizations threw me off, however, that's a personal preference.

Awesome
I loved this book, I know some people complained about the "puberty" aspect for Aram, but she does this in all her books with girls, so why wouldn't she do that for this book.
but besides all of that, I can't wait for the next book!

Not Tamora's best.
Not her best, but worth a read. Set a good foundation for upcoming books. Poor narration/editing; mispronounced words including the author's name.

I tried reading the physical copy, which had more exclamation points to last me a life time. then I thought it might be better on audio... it wasn't.
I understand the MC might be a young boy and going through puberty, but I don't need or want to read about his boners. Nor does any object that happens to just out need to be described as " a mans part". I think the author has an obsession with the male appendage...
