À propos de cet audio
Jiu-jitsu is more than a martial art; it is a lifestyle that promotes health, confidence, self-determination, and balance. Famed jiu-jitsu instructor Rener Gracie presents the core teachings of jiu-jitsu and explains how they can apply to all of our daily lives, including:
- The Pyramid Principle: the importance of investing in a strong foundation
- The Acceptance Principle: recognizing when it's better to yield than to resist
- The Pivot Principle: the value of changing your perspective to increase your effectiveness
- The Redirection Principle: using unfavorable circumstances to create favorable outcomes
Intended for both longtime fans and practitioners of jiu-jitsu as well as those completely unfamiliar with martial arts, The 32 Principles will help you take control of your personal and professional pursuits, supercharge your entrepreneurial spirit, and balance your relationships at work and at home.
Along with multi-award-winning author Paul Volponi, this book features contributions from more than 40 champion athletes, topflight coaches, and others who have benefited from the everyday life applications of these timeless jiu-jitsu principles.

This book discusses the struggles and importance of Carlos Gracie Jr. and the IBJJF in giving jiu-jitsu structure, shape, and professional credibility at a time where it was under threat of becoming simply another fad. The Rise and Evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also discusses the greatest challenges the art faces today, as its popularity carries with it problems that threaten to fragment precisely some of the qualities that set jiu-jitsu apart from other martial arts to begin with.

A mythic figure in fighting and a legendary member of the “first family of martial arts,” Rickson Gracie is considered the godfather of what we recognize today as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Although Rickson’s three decades of total dominance in Jiu Jitsu is astounding, even more astounding is the serenity and spiritual depth of his approach to combat. For Rickson, Jiu Jitsu is a metaphor for life. Some consider Jiu Jitsu a martial art, others consider it a sport, but to Gracie, it is a philosophical system he uses to face and evaluate life’s challenges and maintain happiness and mental balance.

What are the origins of Brazilian jiujitsu? Is it merely a by-product—a rebel offspring—of judo? What was the nature and content of the art that Mitsuyo Maeda, a.k.a. “Count Koma”, and other Japanese were teaching in the Amazon? Was it judo? Jiujitsu? His own personal fight-tested style, built on a foundation of judo and informed by his dozens and dozens of matches around the world? What was the bridge between the art he learned at the Kodokan and the Brazilian style--a style now practiced by millions worldwide and growing bigger every day--that claims him as its godfather?

This is a manual designed to get white belts to competent blue belts in as fast a time as possible. Zen Jiu Jitsu is more a rendition of concepts than techniques. This is the simplest and easiest way to break down and simplify the many and varied ideas, philosophies, and combinations in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu arsenal. For both competition Jiu Jitsu and self-defense Jiu Jitsu, most white belts need to fully understand the concepts, but they can be VERY confusing!

Are you stuck? Struggle. That's the word that comes to mind when I think about the transition from blue belt to purple belt. For reasons that I can't quite work out, when I came to the later stages of being a blue belt I felt confused and lost in my game. Trying to put all the pieces together seemed like a task too far and quitting looked like an option, after all, most guys my age are hitting the golf course or surfing not rolling on the floor with sweat soaked people.

Love Rener and Ryron Gracie But…..
Want to preface this by saying I absolutely respect Rener Gracie and his approach to teaching and jiujitsu. Rener and his brother Ryron are truly inspirational people.
The book however just seemed to be rehashed and recycled stories that anyone who follows Rener and Ryron have already heard. I was really hoping that the 32 principles would be new and more engaging. I guess having said this if you have never followed the Gracie brothers whatsoever this would be just that “new”. I really hope Rener and or Ryron come out with another book maybe something that is more real and raw that does not feel like an infomercial.

Black Belt Book
Rener’s explanations of the principles through combat videos and personal life experiences intensified the amount of knowledge I was able to acquire. It helped me realize that I’m on track in my path towards continuous self-improvement. Also, it helped me accept myself more seeing that tragedies happen to everyone regardless of age or belt color.
The one thing that remains constant in my head after reading the book is this: even when tragedy strikes, I must continue to press on.
