Being a CEO at any of the world’s largest companies is among the most challenging roles in business. Billions, and even trillions, are at stake—and the fates of tens of thousands of employees often hang in the balance. Yet, even when “can’t miss” high-achievers win the top job, very few excel. For those who shoulder the burden of being the one on whom everyone counts, a manual for excellence is sorely needed. To identify the 21st century’s best CEOs, the authors of CEO Excellence started with a pool of over 2,400 public company CEOs.

The pressures on organizations to change will only increase over the next decades. Yet the methods managers have used to strengthen their companies—total quality management, reengineering, right sizing, restructuring, cultural change, and turnarounds—routinely fall short. In Leading Change, Kotter identifies an eight-step process that every company must go through to achieve its goal, and shows where and how people—good people—often derail.

We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them.

Difficult to listen to
The concepts in the book are pretty good but the narration itself is challenging to get through. All three speakers narrate with a slight giggle in their voice at some point in every sentence. It does not make for more compelling, engaging, or relatable story telling. In fact, it is a distracting and pointless effect to add. Skip this audiobook and read the hard copy book instead.

Excelent book, one caveat
The concepts in this book are great. The concepts are real, simple and executable. Readers are clear and credible. One big caveat is that the links referred in the book do not exist in the website.
I am applying these concepts as we speak and excited about it.
