Master Hugh is making his way towards Oxford when he discovers the young Benedictine - a fresh body, barefoot - not half a mile from the nearby abbey. The abbey’s novice master confirms the boy’s identity: John, one of three novices. But he had gone missing four days previously, and his corpse is fresh. There has been plague in the area, but this was not the cause of death: The lad has been stabbed in the back. To Hugh’s sinking heart, the abbot has a commission for him....

Good continuation of series
I do find the series quite interesting with the historical setting of the mid to late 1300s. I thought it could’ve been a bit shorter, maybe it was just because the plot surrounding monks and priors were not as much interest to me as the plot of previous books in this series. In the beginning I thought that the narrator could’ve done a better job of distinguishing between characters voices, but eventually it improved as the book went along. I’ve already downloaded the next book in series.
