À propos de cet audio
“Masterful. The Anthropocene Reviewed is a beautiful, timely book about the human condition—and a timeless reminder to pay attention to your attention.”—Adam Grant, #1 bestselling author of Think Again and host of the podcast Re:Thinking
The instant #1 bestseller from John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars and Turtles All the Way Down, is now available with two brand-new essays!
“Gloriously personal and life-affirming. The perfect book for right now.”—People
“Essential to the human conversation.”—Library Journal, starred review
The Anthropocene is the current geologic age, in which humans have profoundly reshaped the planet and its biodiversity. In this remarkable symphony of essays, bestselling author John Green reviews different facets of the human-centered planet on a five-star scale—from the QWERTY keyboard and sunsets to Canada geese and Penguins of Madagascar. Funny, complex, and rich with detail, the reviews chart the contradictions of contemporary humanity.
John Green’s gift for storytelling shines throughout this masterful collection. The Anthropocene Reviewed is an open-hearted exploration of the paths we forge and an unironic celebration of falling in love with the world.

Tuberculosis has been entwined with humanity for millennia. Once romanticized as a malady of poets, today tuberculosis is a disease of poverty that walks the trails of injustice and inequity we blazed for it. In 2019, John Green met Henry, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone while traveling with Partners in Health. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal and dynamic advocate for increased access to treatment.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“The book is a review of humanity: how we grow, how we build, how we destroy, and how we observe ourselves. Many books succeed at making the personal universal, but this one also makes the universal personal.... This is a book about culture, about science and medicine, about Green himself, but really it surpasses these designations. It is essential to the human conversation. John Green whispered the truth of humanity onto the page, and as with all good secrets, you’ll need to lean in closely to hear.” (Library Journal, starred review)
“The Anthropocene Reviewed is the perfect book to read over lunch or to keep on your nightstand, whenever you need a reminder of what it is to feel small and human, in the best possible way.” (San Francisco Chronicle)
“There is something of the sermon in [Green’s] essays as he mixes curiosity and erudition with confession, compassion, and wit, searching for illuminating life lessons amid life’s dark chaos. His particular mix of irony and sincerity enables him to embrace both the sublime and the ridiculous.” (Booklist)

Such a phenomenal book!
Just a wonderful listen from beginning to end! There are times it would bring me to deep self reflection, other times I would laugh out loud. Deeply poignant moments to hilariously human ones. I cannot recommend this book enough. I give The Anthropocene Reviewed five stars.

great title
while he dips pretty heavily into his personal life which is not really advertised, it was very touching to me and a different view on the mundane was great fun.

Wonderous
I grew through my teenage years shaped by John Green’s writing and videos. I enter my 20’s torn apart by a pandemic and hopelessness. Johns writing is so familiar it hurts… in a good nostalgic kinda way. His wonder reminds me of what matters in a time that I have forgotten. And his reminders of hope inspire me in times that I cannot see clearly. I am thankful for his writing so so much.
I finally accepted that my attention span for reading is not what it used to be and I listened to this one. I’m happy I did. It was great to listen to.

I cried a lot while listening
Profound and immensely meaningful. I feel I must return to this narration again and again to fully and truely draw from it the full spectrum of humanity it conveys. May it be the same for you.

When life makes sense
There aren't many books that as you listen to them you just know you'll listen again and again. Or that as you listen to the author speak the words of making sense of life for himself, your life begins to make more sense.
This is that book.
For so many of us, this last 15 months have shaken us to the core, and none of it makes sense. How can it.
As my own mental health has battled, raged, found light only to remind darkness once again. A world that doesn't make sense seems impossible to bare. And yet, somehow listening to the inner workings of John Green's mind as he himself searches for something to make sense, somehow allows it not making sense to be ok. To enjoy the moments we can, and be ok to rate those that don't simply lower.
I know this book will be a part of my coping strategy on hard days, and for that I am forever grateful.
