À propos de cet audio
Two young women, living centuries apart, both accused of madness, communicate across time to fight a common enemy...their doctors.
"It was the dog who found me."
Such is the stark confession launching the harrowing scene that begins The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls as Emilie Autumn, a young musician on the verge of a bright career, attempts suicide by overdosing on the antipsychotics prescribed to treat her bipolar disorder. Upon being discovered, Emilie is revived and immediately incarcerated in a maximum-security psych ward, despite her protestations that she is not crazy, and can provide valid reasons for her actions if someone would only listen.
Treated as a criminal, heavily medicated, and stripped of all freedoms, Emilie is denied communication with the outside world and falls prey to the unwelcome attentions of Dr. Sharp, head of the hospital's psychiatry department. As Dr. Sharp grows more predatory by the day, Emilie begins a secret diary to document her terrifying experience and to maintain her sanity in this environment that could surely drive anyone mad. But when Emilie opens her notebook to find a desperate letter from a young woman, imprisoned within an insane asylum in Victorian England and bearing her own name and description, a portal to another world is blasted wide open.
As these letters from the past continue to appear, Emilie escapes further into this mysterious alternate reality where sisterhoods are formed, romance between female inmates blossoms, striped wallpaper writhes with ghosts, and highly intellectual rats speak the Queen's English.
But is it real? Or is Emilie truly as mad as she is constantly told she is?
The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls blurs harsh reality and magical historical fantasy whilst issuing a scathing critique of society's treatment of women and the mental health care industry's treatment of its patients.

The narration..
Couldn't even finish it. Couldn't even get into it because of the narrator. This book could be way better with a different performer.

Not an audio book- a full blown PERFORMANCE!!
I loved every second of this story. The author is the narrator and she’s so passionate and quirky. There are songs, emotional outbursts, tears and laughter. It was SO entertaining!! 5 stars all around.

Beautiful. Transfixing. Relatable. Inspirational
This book is one of my favourites, I own the book and have read it before multiple times, but the audiobook is a whole new experience, feeling the emotion in Emilie’s voice and her impressions of all the characters is amazing. I like the fact that I can relate to the characters so easily, having a similar background, it makes me feel less alone in my journey. There are no dislikes. I recommend the book to anyone who is lost in their mental health journey, to anyone who is a fan of Emilie Autumn, and to anyone who has an interest in Victorian asylums or asylums in general.

I love it. And I love you.
I love the concept of the novel, as well as how it’s written, it’s not dry like most novels pertaining to this genre, plus the setting and where these stories take place are captivating. Plus it’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I’ve always wanted a book to take place in this kind of situation from a genuine point of view. Where it feels like you’re experiencing it with the character.
PS.
I’ve been in love with your music, you’re style, or aesthetic for 7 years now. You’ve helped me over come so much in my teen years and this book is helping get through some hard times in my adult life. I hope you write more novels !!

Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls
This audio book is a train wreck. The author/narrator's voice grates on the nerves like finger nails down a chalkboard. The flow of the story is laughable and ruined all at the same time with Emilie speaking like an early Captain Kirk/incredibly snobbish Brit blue blood and a goofball all at once. I can't stress enough how horrible this is, I couldn't even finish it. The physical book itself is amazing but this is just a smelly turd that deserves to be flushed down the toilet. save your money and buy the book, not this trash.
