À propos de cet audio
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.
The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined - every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute...and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

A haunting and complex read
Back when I was younger, I was very into the hunger games series, so when I saw that this book was out, of course I had to hear it.
The writing and wording is smooth and good to listen to. The characters are complex and interesting. This book both haunted me with the dark tones and the way the main character justifies his actions, and left me spellbound with every twist and turn to come. The way the world is portrayed, just as dark as it always had been but more up front about it, absolutely absorbed me into it and captivated me.
I haven’t read or heard a book this good in a very long time. If you’re on the fence about this, it’s a must read in my opinion! Especially if you like the series, it’s an important read about some historical times in the world’s history.

Great prequel
I loved the book! It fleshed out the world much more and gave some good insight into the character of Coriolanus Snow. It gives up some nice little Easter eggs for the original trilogy.
The narration is pretty good on the whole. However, the spoken word renditions of the songs were really bad. I understand that putting melody to original lyrics can be difficult as I struggled with that upon my first reading of the original trilogy.
(Side note: I loved Jennifer Lawrence's renditions of the songs in the movies but didn't particularly enjoy Tatiana Maslany's)
I could understand and justify Santino Fontana's choice of not putting a particular melody into his interpretation of the original song lyrics. Then came the song 'My Darling Clementine'. It sounded like a bad dry-reading of poetry. It took me completely out of the story for those moments.
Other than that, Santino Fontana's narration was good with a decent delineation of the characters' speech so it wasn't hard to follow who was speaking. I appreciated that Coriolanus Snow's 'voice' changed as the character developed. It was a great audiobook and I enjoyed it!

Good but Long Winded
It is cool to hear about what made Snow turn into the man he was in the original trilogy. However, I think the story is way too long and so much could have been edited out and the story would have flowed better.

Not bad as I thought
I heard mixed reviews about this book and honestly it wasn’t as bad as I thought. It does a pretty good job exploring the capital life and Snow wasn’t that bad as a protagonist. I feel honestly for a prequel, they could’ve had a different protagonist as we all know the kind of person Snow becomes in the future

Better than expected
Compelling backstory to the main villain of the Hunger Games trilogy. Ably written and performed allowing the listener to find sympathy and some understanding for the protagonist Snow as he selfishly destroys and uses those around him.
