À propos de cet audio
Can psychedelic drugs help us tackle the biggest problems we face globally? Can they heal the cultural, spiritual, and political wounds we’re wrestling with?
Psychedelics have hit the mainstream as powerful new mental health treatments. But as clinicians explore what these molecules can do for our individual minds, The Bigger Picture goes further to illuminate how psychedelics can help us find new ways to make sense of and come through the crises we face around the world.
Drawing on the latest research, as well as his unique experience as a participant in a ground-breaking clinical trial investigating the potent psychedelic DMT, Alexander Beiner reveals:
- the role of psychedelics in addressing global issues such as global warming, geopolitical instability, and political polarization
- the dark side of the ‘psychedelic renaissance’ and ‘psychedelic capitalism’
- what it takes to elicit huge personal and cultural transformation through psychedelics
Embark on a journey into The Bigger Picture – a new era of science and spirituality with the potential to radically transform our perceptions of ourselves, one another, and our life on this planet.

We are in the midst of a powerful psychedelic renaissance. After four decades of hibernation, the promise of the psychoactive 60s - that deeper self-awareness, achieved through reality-bending substances and practices, will lead to greater external harmony - is again gaining a major following. The signs are everywhere, from the influence of today's preeminent psychedelic thinker Daniel Pinchbeck, to the renewed interest in the legacy of Terence McKenna, and to the upsurge of collective cultural phenomena like the spectacle of Burning Man.

The use of entheogens, or psychedelics, is out of the closet today. LSD, psilocybin, MDMA, and other medicines once associated only with the counterculture are now being legally studied for their healing properties. But as Rachel Harris shows, the underground use and study of psychedelics by women dates back to the Eleusinian Mysteries of ancient Greece. Harris interviews the modern women elders carrying on this tradition to gather their hard-won wisdom of experience.

Histoire
In this extraordinary best seller, James Hillman presents a brilliant vision of our selves, and an exciting approach to the mystery at the center of every life that asks, “What is it, in my heart, that I must do, be, and have? And why?” Drawing on the biographies of figures such as Ella Fitzgerald and Mohandas K. Gandhi, Hillman argues that character is fate, that there is more to each individual than can be explained by genetics and environment. The result is a reasoned and powerful road map to understanding our true nature and discovering an eye-opening array of choices.

Few drugs in history have generated as much controversy as MDMA—or held as much promise. Once vilified as a Schedule I substance that would supposedly eat holes in users’ brains, MDMA (also known as Molly or Ecstasy) is now being hailed as a therapeutic agent that could transform the field of mental health and outpace psilocybin and ketamine as the first psychedelic approved for widespread clinical use. In I Feel Love, science journalist Rachel Nuwer separates fact from fantasy, hope from hype, in the drug’s contested history and still-evolving future.

Based on nearly three decades of legal research with volunteers, William A. Ce que les critiques en disent
‘Although they will perhaps always remain mysterious, psychedelics have also always invited us – and our ancestors – to heed the teachings they have to offer, to reconsider our place in the universe, and to recognize the enigma of our own existence. The Bigger Picture adds substantial new information to our understanding of psychedelics and their potentially momentous significance to the world today. I highly recommend this carefully and convincingly argued, deeply thought-provoking and beautifully written book.’ –Graham Hancock
‘The Bigger Picture is an entertaining, insightful, and timely book. Beiner draws on the latest psychedelic science to explain how what we’re learning about these molecules can help us make sense of our social and political challenges in new ways, and he ties together research from a variety of different fields to present a compelling and nuanced argument as to why psychedelic science could change the world for the better.’ –Robin Carhart-Harris, Founder of the Centre for Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London, and Director of Psychedelics Division, Neuroscape, UCSF
‘Beiner is a wise and entertaining guide through the jungle of contemporary psychedelics, bringing much-needed critical thinking to the field’. –Jules Evans, author of Philosophy for Life and Director of the Challenging Psychedelic Experiences Project

A brave and insightful synthesis of psychedelics, culture, and the path we’re on.
Beiner wove something unique here. He pulled in threads of psychedelia, philosophy, psychology, technology, game theory, meaning, myth, culture, and crisis. Somehow, it came out grounded, insightful, and easy to follow.
There’s a trove of insight and wisdom in this book. After a read like this I’m struck by what a great deal a great book is. We get the benefit of a life’s work in a matter of hours.
One caveat: might be confronting to psychedelic-naive readers, but read it anyway with curiosity and without cynicism.

Excellent
I found it a comprehensive overview of the use, benefits and limitations of psychedelics. I also liked that the author was humble in his interpretation of results.
