Montana-based detective and gun repairer Ulysses Underhill is coerced into joining a posse hunting down Israel Hagan, a thief and alleged killer. Ulysses, who once was a vigilante but is now trying to leave his violent past behind, prevents the posse from summarily executing Hagan.
