À propos de cet audio
Don’t miss Bridge of Clay, Markus Zusak’s first novel since The Book Thief.
The extraordinary number-one New York Times best seller that is now a major motion picture, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul. Nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.
When Death has a story to tell, you listen. It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist - books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.
In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.
“The kind of book that can be life-changing.” (The New York Times)
“Deserves a place on the same shelf with The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.” (USA Today)

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

One of the better stories
This book, this story, is a masters work, designed to pull you in, make you trust and love it, want to share a dinner with it, reminisce and laugh into the evening with drinks and an evening stroll in the park. Then after you have said goodbye and settled; while you are still warmed by the days events as you close your eyes to dream of love and peaceful soothing memories, it is outside pouring the gasoline so that your house will burn faster
What a story
I am strongly recommending it

Absolutely LOVED this book and the narration. Perfect in every way. The subject, setting and narrator are all tragic yet this book had me laughing often also.

Beautifully Written & Brilliantly Narrated!
This is, as described, "just a small story really"... But one with both cleverness and heart. The author's tone is beautifully understated throughout and the narrator, Allan Corduner, captures and carries this brilliantly! 'A challenging narration as the story is told from Death's perspective, but Corduner hits it perfectly. A really enjoyable listen, despite the (necessarily) dark content.
A quick add: this isn't a tale for times when the kids are within earshot.

Unforgettable!!
War, death, love, innocence of childhood, loss, grief, good and evil, suffering, human resilience and the length and breadth many other emotions we feel as humans is the subject of this book. The plot is simple but the story telling is mesmerizing, read to absolute perfection by the narrator. One of THE best books I have ever read. Unforgettable.
