À propos de cet audio
Will Everett has always wished for an adventure. Little does he know his adventure starts the moment he boards the Boundless. There is a murder, and now Will protects a key that can unlock the train¹s hidden treasures. Villains are fast on his heels and strange creatures are lurking outside the windows, as the Boundless hurtles across the country. Together with Maren, a gifted escape artist, and Mr. Dorian, a circus ringmaster with amazing abilities, Will must save the Boundless before someone else winds up dead. His adventure may have begun without him knowing…but how it ends is up to Will.

surprisingly good
This was an Audible special, and I've put off listening to it for months and months. But I finally gave it a go and... I liked it. The first hour didn't grab me, but then it really takes off.
I think maybe it bites off more than it can chew. There's a steampunk train, sasquatches (who are violent and scary, here, which makes me sad. I love sasquatches), a travelling circus, a heist, a tie to the fountain of youth, a whole lot of commentary on race and class struggles (which was done quite well, I think, and introduced things, like how Chinese Canadians were used as blasters in the construction of the railroad because white society did not value their lives, in a clear and age-appropriate way), the male gaze, and the pains of growing up. It was all interesting, but not as fully-realized as it might have been.
The other thing is, the ending definitely reads differently for adults. I think young readers will appreciate the protagonist's decision, but I was like, noooo, don't dooo it! I reminded me of my own foolhardy (but adventurous) decisions.

Amazing
This book's story was incredible and complex meanwhile it manages to stick to small enough base material that it isn't hard to remember all the character's names.
By far the best book I have ever listened to.

Interesting idea, but so-so storytelling
As much as I've loved Nick Podehl as a narrator for other audiobooks, I was disappointed with the performance of this book. This is a story set in Canada and based on Canadian history, but a lot of the characters sounded like they were from the American South. Also, it seemed like he didn't pronounce Métis properly, which is not great considering one of the main characters is Métis... a quick Google search could have avoided this problem entirely!
The premise of the story seemed really interesting, but I didn't like the way it ended. And using brown-face to disguise a character? In a world where sasquatches exist, I think the author could have come up with a more interesting/creative way to disguise his character than with brown-face.
